We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled
Substation Planner IIIto join our team at K&A Engineering in
Charlotte, NC.In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. You’ll be part of a dynamic, people-focused team where your expertise, ideas, and contributions will be valued and celebrated.
Role Expectations
- Develop detailed work packages including scope, labor estimates, skills required, equipment/parts needs, permits, schedules, and supporting documentation.
- The Transmission & Substation Planner is responsible for planning, preparing, and scheduling construction and maintenance activities for transmission line and substation assets. This role develops work packages, coordinates resources, and supports field teams to ensure efficient execution of annual work plans valued at $150M–$300M.
- Review equipment history to identify special requirements and combine related work for efficiency.
- Track progress, identify scheduling risks, and document variances between estimated vs. actual hours.
- Coordinate with Construction, Project Management, Energy Services, T&D reps, plant teams, and Grid Management groups (ECC/TCC/DCC).
- Participate in project planning meetings to clarify scope, sequence work, determine clearances, and allocate resources.
- Support emergency planning, clearance requests, and hot line tag requests.
- Conduct site visits for scoping, walkdowns, material verification, and work package quality audits.
- Ensure accuracy of NERC-related documentation when required.- 10+ years of experience in transmission line or substation construction/maintenance.
- Strong understanding of utility construction methods, resources, and equipment.
- Ability to independently plan and schedule complex work.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally.
Pay Range $40-45/hour
