Job Overview:
Reporting to a Lead person or Processing Supervisor, the Mill Operator is responsible for operating the mill room to process clay into a finished product. Must be able to fulfill all other tasks associated with processing, including kilns, loader, bulk loader, lab, and substitute for Processing Leader.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts all work in a safe, efficient manner, correcting and reporting safety issues, recognizing opportunities for improvement, completing near miss cards.
- Completes pre-shift safety and general inspections of the work area, documenting in writing the inspection and any concerns on a standard form.
- Generate necessary work orders and check completed maintenance work using the work order system.
- Operates the milling and screening processes.
- Modifies milling processes to meet product specifications.
- Monitors equipment operation by observation of gauges, test data, or direct observation making necessary adjustments.
- Collects samples and performs quality assurance and operational parameter testing
- Sets up equipment for different product runs
- Adjusts milling equipment and screen changes
- Operates front-end loader and skid steer
- Assists in maintaining all equipment in processing area
- Responsible for troubleshooting and daily routine maintenance of equipment, including basic repairs
- Performs basic repairs and works with assists maintenance personnel as needed.
- Performs conveyer safety and maintenance
- Performs lock out procedures including knowledge of alarm systems and how to troubleshoot mechanical problems in the mill and dryer areas
- Keeps work areas clean and free of clutter.
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Experience with a large ERP preferred.
- Must be able to read, comprehend, and act on SOPs equipment drawings, (Standard Operating Procedures), PWI (Process Work Instructions), and similar documents.

- Must be able to visually monitor electronic equipment, cameras, and control panels to be able to interpret the data and take appropriate actions.

- Must be able to lift 50 pounds frequently
- Bending, reaching, twisting, stooping, walking, and climbing stairways and ladders frequently
- Must be able to climb ladders up to 100 feet
- Must be able to communicate clearly by radio, telephone, and in person
- Must be able to function in the required role while wearing appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) including, but not limited to: Safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, dust mask, protective coveralls, and other as may be required by a hot/cold, dusty, loud industrial environment.
