Job Summary/Purpose
Plans, directs, schedules, performs, and checks all work in connection with construction and maintenance of gas distribution system. Performs company field operations including manual labor and other duties necessary to accomplish the installation, repair, construction and maintenance of natural gas distribution systems.
Accountabilities And Essential Functions
- Leads and directs all gas distribution work for a construction crew.
- Installs, repairs or replaces steel and plastic pipe.
- Ensures that each crew member knows safety policies and practices, monitors for compliance, coaches in the field.
- Ensure gas lines and other utility lines are located prior to excavation.
- Ensures plastic and steel welding performed by crew members meets standards.
- Transport required equipment, tools, and supplies to work sites.
- Provides First Responder assistance in emergency situations.
- Completes paperwork as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required of the position- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
- Requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction, installation and/or maintenance systems (to include one of the following: natural gas distribution; piping systems; water, sewer, or electric utility; state/city/county/parish and the oil industry).
- Two (2) years of experience in natural gas distribution preferred.
- Must include one (1) year of experience welding steel pipes.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Preferred Of The Position
- Able to apply knowledge of industry and company safety standards and regulations and hold others accountable for complying.
- Able to provide a valid state Class A commercial driver's license and present and maintain a good driving record and operate company vehicles safely and in compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
- Able to operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, trencher and a two-ton or larger truck.
- Able to utilize and train others on the use of proper tools for any given job.
- Able to assist with Plugging and Tapping procedures.
- Able to perform gas meter resets and relights.
- Able to demonstrate and maintain company plastic welding certification and company Arc or Oxygen-Acetylene welding certification.
- Able to use a Personal Computer, SAP, and Mobile Data.
- Able to utilize the company’s mapping system.
- Able to complete paperwork as required.
- Able to demonstrate an aptitude for basic mechanical tasks.

Any Certificates, Licenses, Etc. Required For The Position
- Must pass company welding certification within 90 days of employment.
- Must obtain Class A CDL within 90 days of employment
- Able to operate a motor vehicle, including the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted.
- Able to perform on-site inspections.
- Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
- Able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.
- Able to exert up to 50 Lbs. of force occasionally, and /or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push or otherwise move objects.
Travel:
This position will have up to 10% annual travel to other facilities within our Louisiana and Mississippi locations for an emergency response. A company truck will be provided for daily, local travel. When on-call, this position will be the first person to respond.

- Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion.

- Able to respond to emergency calls and/or callouts and occasionally return to work while off duty.
- Able to wear and operate personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear and earplugs daily.
- Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions.
- May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts.

As a safety sensitive position, compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) drug and alcohol regulations is required, including but not limited to pre-employment drug testing and background screening.
