Assist the Principal and classroom teachers to effectively plan, coordinate and carry out student and parent activities and/or to work as a translator/interpreter to enhance the participation of limited English proficient children and parents in (Burmese, Swahili, or Kirundi, and Vietnamese).
- Serve as translator/interpreter for non-English speaking students and parents.
- Assist school in developing plans for parent participation with ongoing communication between home and school.
- Work cooperatively with parents and other classroom volunteers.
- Translate school to home written communications for non-English speaking families.
- Translate policies, guidelines and practices regarding the operation of Title I Program and NCLB legislation.
- Assist administration in providing information to students, parents and community on family support services provided through the District to improve academic achievement and school performance. This includes and not limited to participation in health resources under Federal Medicaid program.
- Attend and participate in scheduled professional development.
- Maintain documentation of services provided to students and parents.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Proficiency in English and other languages (Burmese, Swahili, Kirundi and Vietnamese).
- Proficiency in electronic communication and basic computer skills.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to work with children and their parents.
- Three (3) years successful experience working with children and their parents.
- Course work in child development or educational psychology.
- Previous volunteer or paid experience translating or interpreting.
