Job Title: Family and Community Outreach Manager
The Kansas City Public Schools Family and Community Engagement (FaCE) Manager leads the district’s family and community engagement efforts, providing oversight, support, and coordination across schools and programs to ensure integration and alignment with district priorities. This role sets district-level goals, strategies, and outcomes, while directly overseeing FaCE liaisons and the Family and Community Outreach Specialist. The Manager strategically guides and evaluates engagement practices, ensuring culturally responsive programming and meaningful community voice throughout the design and implementation of initiatives.
- Establish districtwide goals, strategies, outcomes, and plans for family and community engagement.
- Plan and lead strategic and operational initiatives associated with mobilization and advocacy for KCPS families and the broader Kansas City community.
- Conduct demographic and community analyses, including interviews, to better understand local needs and inform outreach strategies.
- Develop metrics for measuring outcomes of family and community engagement programs; conduct annual assessments to inform improvements.
- Implement family engagement practices aligned with Board policy and culturally responsive programming.
- Execute engagement programs at the school level and provide insights from families and communities to inform district strategy.
- Work with schools to develop and implement comprehensive outreach plans that include multiple on-ramps for families to become involved, with parents and caregivers taking responsibility for components of the plan and moving up Ladders of Engagement through leadership development and training.
- Organize focus groups, discussion circles, and school visits with external stakeholders to advance understanding of KCPS priorities.
- Directly support Family and Community Engagement (FaCE) liaisons and supervise the Family and Community Outreach Specialist.
- Provide professional learning opportunities, coaching, and resources to FaCE staff.
- Convene regional meetings and trainings to build parent capacity for advocacy and civic engagement.
- Advise and recruit parents and caregivers for ongoing training and development opportunities, specifically related to the Family Empowerment Series.
- Build strong relationships with families, school communities, and local volunteers.
- Serve as liaison to the District Advisory Council; support planning, recruitment, and execution of council initiatives.
- Assist District leadership in structuring all events with families and communities to elicit full and meaningful parent and community participation.
- Collaborate with departments such as School Leadership, Students in Transition, Language Services, Exceptional Education, and Early Childhood to enhance engagement for diverse families.
- Manage day-to-day engagement operations and school-level event logistics.
- Schedule school-based events in collaboration with FaCE liaisons and principals; maintain a shared calendar for visibility and coordination.
- Track participation and feedback at the school level; share insights with the Director of Strategic Engagement for planning and improvement.
- Compile and analyze school and district FaCE data to inform decision-making.
Utilize current communications mechanisms and serve as the initial point-of-contact for fielding and addressing family and community questions and concerns via the Let’s Talk dashboard.
To Be Successful at This Job, You'll Need To: (Minimum Qualifications)
- Bachelors Degree in Education, Social Work, Sociology or related field from an accredited institution
- Three (3) years of experience in community outreach or community program development preferred
- Experience with leading and facilitating public engagement meetings and presentations.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft office software programs
- Evidence of effective interpersonal, communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and team building skills
- Organized and detail oriented with the ability to multi-task, analyze and drive process improvement.

In Order to #LevelUp in This Role, You'll Need: (Preferred Qualifications)
- Master’s Degree in Education, Social Work or a related field
- Five (5) years of experience in community outreach or community program development
- Experience working with building and district level administrators to include historical knowledge of the Kansas City educational landscape
- Ability to speak, write or understand conversational Spanish
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to support strong project management and implementation experience.
