Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to oversee our organization's health and safety programs. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and workplace safety standards while promoting a culture of safety within the organization. This role requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively communicate safety practices to employees at all levels.
1. Ensure implementation of processes and procedures to maintain compliance with all applicable local, state and federal regulations and permits under OSHA, EPA and state DNR. Support all company safety policies by your actions.
2. Implement facility’s Emergency Action Plan (EAP), Integrated Contingency Plan (ICP), Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC), Risk Management Plan (RMP), Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), Accidental Discharge and Slug Control Plan (ADSCP).
3. Assist the facility’s commitments under the sites Air, Appropriations, NPDES, and Waste permits. Complete multi-media responsibility for task driven commitments.
4. Establish and maintain relationship with Local Emergency Planning and response organizations to facilitate their participation in the Facility Response Plan.
5. Responsible for building and ensuring implementation of a strong Process Safety Management (PSM) program.
6. Ensure implementation of Safe Work Practices (SWP), including providing training and making required changes.
7. Organize and lead a productive plant safety committee, document meetings and activities that add value.
8. Implement tasks defined on Environmental Health and Safety Routine Duties Calendar, ensuring 100% compliance, including incident reports and follow up actions to prevent reoccurrences.
9. Assist with and support proper management of SDS documents per OSHA regulations.
10. Manage the Environmental and Safety Audit improvement processes as well as utilize vender partnership to the fullest.
11. Ensure day to day environmental and safety compliance requirements.
12. Communicate any compliance issues to the Manager and assist in developing correction action plans.
13. Track leading and lagging indicators for health and safety performance.
14. Responsible for production of safe products and adherence to internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
Bachelor degree in Engineering, Safety/Environmental Sciences or Related technical field preferred
Beneficial Certifications include: DOT HazMat, HAZWOPER, CPR, ASSE, and National Safety Council Workplace Certification Certified Safety Specialist (CSP)
Previous experience in a fuel ethanol production facility preferred
Industrial process operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience in processing required
Ability to interact professionally and effectively with internal and external customers
Ability to maintain good relationships with internal and external customers, use tact
Strong analytical abilities, problem solving skills, negotiation skills, dispute resolution and ability to overcome obstacles
Ability to anticipate needs and accomplish necessary tasks
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
Some time will be spent in a temperature-controlled office-based environment at the plant office. Ability to sit for long periods of time. Able to view computer screen for lengths at a time. Significant time will be spent in the plant. All types of chemical industry equipment are used in the plant to include, but not limited to fermentation vessels, jet cookers, agitators, mixing and milling equipment, distillation columns, centrifuges and distributive control systems. May be exposed to loud noises, wet and humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic chemicals, extreme hot and cold depending on weather conditions. May be required to work in high, precarious places. Must be able to speak and listen clearly. Fine visual acuity to read for accuracy. Travel required or as needed.
