Talon Metals Corp is seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer – Permitting to join its team, an innovative group of mining industry professionals developing a high-grade nickel and copper deposit in Aitkin County, Minnesota, and a mineral processing facility in Mercer County, North Dakota.
The successful candidate will provide technical and regulatory support for permitting processes, ensuring that both facilities operate in accordance with applicable environmental regulations. This role requires experience in navigating permitting frameworks, preparing technical documentation, project management, and engaging with regulatory agencies, consultants, and stakeholders.

- Lead and support environmental efforts at federal, state, and local levels.
- Oversee the preparation and review of technical documents and permit applications (air, water, wetlands, stormwater, waste management, and related programs) prepared by consultants or internal staff.
- Manage project schedules, deliverables, and contractor/consultant work to ensure timely and complete submissions.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies, consultants, and stakeholders to advance permitting and compliance efforts.
- Provide strategic guidance to project teams on compliance requirements and permitting pathways.
- Support the development of environmental management plans, monitoring programs, and mitigation strategies.
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, Environmental Science, Mine Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in environmental permitting and compliance, preferably in mining, energy, or other heavy industrial sectors.
- OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience may be acceptable.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations, including the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), and Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).
- Experience preparing and reviewing permit applications and technical documentation.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from research, testing results, data collation of varying difficulty arriving at an effective and logical solution.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to effectively engage with regulators, stakeholders, and internal teams.
- Familiarity with Minnesota and North Dakota environmental permitting processes will be beneficial.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or other relevant certification (e.g., PMP, CPESC) is advantageous.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc).
- Database, GIS, CAD, and visualization software skills are desirable.
- Availability for occasional travel to project sites in Minnesota and North Dakota.
