KFS is seeking a Part-Time Senior Geologist role who performs a variety of professional geological assignments and provides technical assistance to individuals and agencies on geological matters. This role involves conducting investigations, preparing reports, supervising staff, and supporting planning, development services, land use, building services, resources management, community development, and public works projects. The Senior Geologist also leads lower-level geologists, engineers, analysts, and other staff, ensuring projects are completed effectively and in compliance with division policies and objectives.
- Conduct exploratory investigations to evaluate geological conditions and hazards.
- Analyze the environmental impact of land development, construction, and related projects.
- Prepare geological analyses and technical reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide technical consultation and assistance to individuals, agencies, and organizations.
- Supervise and direct the work of lower-level geologists, analysts, engineers, and clerical staff.
- Perform personnel management functions including hiring, training, evaluating, and disciplining staff.
- Assign duties, review work progress, and ensure projects are completed to standards.
- Communicate division goals, objectives, policies, and procedures to staff.
- Ensure compliance with department policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a closely related field.
- 15 years of progressively responsible experience in geology or a related field, including supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge and technical competence in geology.
- Proven organizational, supervisory, and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team setting.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with sound judgment.
- High degree of initiative, maturity, and professionalism.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all organizational levels and with the public.
- Familiarity with department goals, objectives, policies, and practices preferred.
This role involves office-based work as well as field investigations. The Senior Geologist will interact regularly with internal teams, external agencies, and members of the public.
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position may require typing and reading from a computer screen. Must have sufficient mobility, including but not limited to bending, reaching, and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner. There is a possibility that due to parking availability and location of work, walking moderate to long distance may be required. Possible lifting up to 25 lbs.
