As a Service Technician, you’ll install, troubleshoot, and repair residential and commercial oil and/or propane heating systems—always with safety, accuracy, and customer care at the forefront. You’ll serve as a key representative of our brand, offering honest advice, dependable service, and genuine respect for every customer’s home, property, and privacy.
- Installing, troubleshooting, and repairing oil and/or propane heating systems in compliance with codes, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Conducting efficiency tests, tune-ups, and contract service inspections.
- Reducing call-backs by delivering accurate, high-quality work the first time.
- Serving as a trusted advisor by looking professional, acting courteously, and providing thoughtful recommendations.
- Promoting Dead River Company products, services, and options tailored to customer needs.
- Maintaining a clean, organized service vehicle and ensuring tools are in safe working condition.
- Recording parts, labor, and service details promptly and accurately.
- Participating in night and weekend on-call rotations.
- Performing propane Gas-check inspections (for propane technicians).
- Reporting accidents, spills, and liability issues immediately.
- Supporting additional job-related tasks as needed
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical school training preferred.
- Apprentice: Completed oil burner training course or CETP program.
- Journeyman: 1+ year of relevant propane and/or oil service experience. - Master: 2+ years of relevant propane and/or oil service experience.- Apprentice, Journeyman, or Master license where required by state.
- Applicable CETP certification for propane technicians.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical.
- Strong commitment to safety.

- Mechanical aptitude and experience with industry tools and testing equipment.

- You’ll work in diverse settings—from your service vehicle to residential basements to commercial mechanical rooms. Conditions may vary from below-zero temperatures in winter to heat above 90° in summer. You’ll occasionally work in tight spaces and around petroleum products and fumes, always following safety protocols.
