Cenergy is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership and drive innovation in
emerging energy technologies. This role involves delivering engineering consulting services for Shell
TechWorks (STW), Shell’s innovation hub focused on tackling some of the most pressing challenges in
the energy industry. We work across Shell’s global businesses, from traditional Oil & Gas to Renewables
& Energy Solutions, to accelerate the energy transition and help Shell achieve its Powering Progress

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will be at the forefront of Shell TechWorks’ mission to drive
innovation and deliver impactful solutions that shape the future of energy. This role demands strong
technical leadership, strategic vision, and a bias for action to steer the direction of complex, high-impact
projects. You will leverage your broad engineering expertise, complemented by deep technical
proficiency in at least one area, to deliver transformative solutions. Your work will directly support

• Geothermal Systems Study: Evaluated topside costs for geothermal energy systems, comparing
various power generation archetypes to conventional energy sources.
• Marine e-Fleet Management: Developed a proof-of-concept for a marine electric fleet
management system to support mixed tugboat fleets (diesel, hybrid, and electric).
• Advanced Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS): Designed and optimized next-generation CCS
solutions, including direct air capture technologies and CO₂ storage strategies.
• Immersion Cooling Innovation: Advanced immersion cooling technologies for power
electronics, focusing on thermal transfer efficiency, material compatibility, and electrical
• Low-Carbon Fuels & Biofuels: Supported the development of sustainable fuels through technoeconomic analyses, feedstock supply chain optimization, and evaluation of conversion
technologies to accelerate decarbonization in the transport sector.
Technical Leadership & Strategy. Provide technical leadership across multiple engineering disciplines,
using deep expertise in one area to drive innovation and deliver impactful solutions. Define and execute
Shell TechWorks’ technical strategy in alignment with Shell’s broader goals. Lead large, complex, multiyear projects, translating complex ideas into actionable strategies and navigating ambiguity with clarity.
Leverage advanced technologies—such as AI, machine learning, digital twins, and advanced materials—
to accelerate innovation. These efforts will enable predictive analytics, real-time monitoring, and next
generation energy solutions. Additionally, guide early-stage (H2/H3) 1 innovation strategy, applying open
innovation to identify and integrate external technologies and partners.
Innovation Process & Autonomy. You will lead innovation initiatives from ideation to execution, with a
focus on rapid prototyping and scaling impactful solutions. Operating with a high degree of autonomy,
you will make strategic decisions to steer projects toward success while fostering a culture of creativity
and experimentation. This includes evaluating solutions as if investing your own capital, navigating and
influencing within complex, unstructured environments, and applying a customer-first mindset to
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration. In this role, you’ll build strong relationships with Shell
business units, industry leaders, and academic partners. You’ll contribute to external initiatives such as
ISO working groups, industry consortia, and academic collaborations. Leading cross-functional teams,
you’ll drive high-impact outcomes aligned with Shell’s strategic goals—bridging traditional and emerging
energy sectors to support the energy transition. You’ll also leverage open innovation ecosystems and
technology scouting to identify and integrate external technologies and partnerships.
Analytical & Technical Proficiency. You will demonstrate strong analytical thinking and problem-solving
skills, with the agility to quickly grasp and contribute to new technical domains. Proficiency in
developing detailed mathematical models, apply numerical computation techniques, and perform
complex data analyses to extract insights and inform decision-making.
Product Ownership & Execution. You will take ownership of large, high-complexity projects, ensuring
the delivery of impactful solutions that align with Shell’s strategic priorities. This includes leveraging
internal and external capabilities, such as vendors and contractors, to execute projects effectively.
Additionally, you will contribute to the growth of Shell TechWorks’ portfolio by identifying and pursuing
new business opportunities, furthering Shell’s mission to drive innovation and achieve a sustainable
