The Maintenance Technician – I&C works independently and with other technicians to perform inspection and repairs. He plans and prioritizes work, inventories and stages parts, instructs and trains, and follows established procedure to ensure the safety of him and others.
- I&C certificate with 3 years power plant or heavy industrial experience, or employees covered under Massachusetts General Law.
- Read and understand blueprints, schematics, P&ID’s, instruction manuals, etc.
Entry level also includes 6 of the below characteristics. Each criterion will be judged through “hands on” demonstration or interview process.
- Associate’s engineering degree.
- Other Licenses (Mass. Stationary Engineer, etc)
- Demonstrated ability with PC programs, PLC’s, control systems, ladder logic, etc
- Ability to take precise measurements, voltages, amperes, ohms, etc.
- Working knowledge with control valves and operators of various designs.
- Demonstrated ability in use of Fluke meters, mega, dead weight tester, calibration, and diagnostic equipment, etc.
- Working knowledge of pneumatics & hydraulics.
- Demonstrated ability with switches, relays, breakers, motor starters, disconnects, etc.
- Understand principles of predictive maintenance, (vibration analysis, thermograph, oil sampling, etc.)
- Working knowledge of materials, codes, pressure/temperature ratings, insulating properties.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
The following is a brief description of some of the responsibilities but is not limited to for potential candidates:
- Performs equipment inspection, testing, calibration and repair.
- Uses the Maximo work management system
- Communicates efforts with operations and other departments.
- Adheres to Lock Out/Tag Out, confined space, and other safety procedures.
- Maintains tools and equipment in good working order.
- Responsible for housekeeping of their areas.
- Maintains equipment records, specifications, instruction manuals, catalogs, etc.
- Keeps up with technological advances and assists others to adapt to them.
- The candidate must abide by Canal Generating LLC’s Code of Ethics, have the ability to build relationships, provide the highest level of customer service, exercise good judgment, remain flexible, communicate effectively, achieve goals that promote Canal’s best interest, work effectively as a team member, and accept challenges readily in a stressful environment. Additionally, the candidate must be able to manage multiple assignments at one time.
- Be physically fit, alert and safety conscious.
- Assists in “on the job training” of other employees to gain an understanding of the power plant cycle.
- Ability to develop personal computer skills and varied applications, i.e. Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Maximo.
- Work rotating shift work, holiday and weekend work in addition to overtime.
- Read, write and speak English.
- Use and maintain tools and equipment.
- Interpret and apply instructions, specifications, blueprints, and procedures.
- Ability to perform both indoor and outdoor tasks requires continuous physical activity, sometimes of a strenuous and stressful nature.
- Ability to work in enclosed vessels or confined spaces.
- Possess the appropriate body coordination to do the following for extended periods of time: climb ladders, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pulling/pushing, lifting, standing, walking, and squatting.
- Work on or around energized electrical equipment.
- Work at elevated heights including scaffolding.
- Ability to work alone in remote areas.
- Ability to work in dark areas or areas with limited lighting.
- Work in ambient temperatures ranging from very cold to very hot.
- Work in areas that may be noisy and dirty.
- Possess good hearing and vision.
- Ability to wear a respirator and other job related personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Reports directly to the Lead Maintenance Technician and/or Maintenance Supervisor
- Hourly rate is consistent with the wage schedule established by agreement between Canal Generating LLC and the Utility Workers Union of America AFL-CIO Local 369.
