Southern Power is the premier electrical and maintenance company. We specialize in electrical testing and commissioning, power transformers, switchgear and breakers, protective relays, substation construction & maintenance, plant maintenance, and engineering services.
Examples Of Electrical Engineer Intern Daily Activities
- Assist with troubleshooting, gathering and analyzing data
- Participate in plant turnarounds/outages
- Support various project tasks including:
- Cable prep and termination
- AC circuit verification, DC schematic verification
- Protective relay testing and equipment isolation
- Perform electrical testing of major components of substations
- Perform data entry, data management, data evaluation, and data presentation
- Support the preparation of reports for clients
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as necessary
- Enrolled at an accredited college or university majoring in an undergraduate Electrical Engineering degree program.
- Must have an overall grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale at all times throughout your time at Southern Power Systems. An official transcript will be required each term. Cumulative GPA on current institution transcript will be used in transfer college situations.
- Must have completed sophomore year prior to first assignment with Southern Power Systems
- Ability to work full time (40 hours a week during normal business hours) May through August. (Not eligible for virtual work.)
- Preference given to candidates with availability and desire to work a minimum of three (3) terms
- Must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without the requirement of a work/student visa
- Must be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
- A Valid US Driver's license is required
- Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel out of town.
