This role has the option to be a blend of remote and onsite work if department and business needs allow and with approval from direct supervision. Our hybrid remote work schedule combines three (3) days on premises with up to two (2) days remote.
All skill levels are being considered and the person chosen for the position will be placed in the level in which they are experienced. Please see below for description of all levels.
The Revenue Accountant analyzes RTO transactions to ensure proper accounting treatment and inclusion in cost recovery mechanisms, interprets tariffs and industrial contracts, develops complex billing calculations for implementation into the power billing system, ensures accurate and timely monthly power billing to member systems, and prepares monthly fuel adjustment clause calculations and regulatory filings. This position requires strong technical accounting skills, the ability to interpret complex data, explain account variances, and complete financial reports related to revenue and RTO transactions in compliance with the requirements of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and various regulatory agencies including Rural Utilities Services (RUS), Kentucky Public Service Commission (KPSC), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Kentucky Department of Revenue, as well as the policies established by East Kentucky Power Cooperative.
- Analyzes complex financial data, extracts, and defines relevant information.
- Exercises accounting control over a group of accounts within an assigned area.
- Records, classifies, and summarizes financial transactions and events in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Ensures compliance with GAAP, Rural Development Utilities Programs (RDUP), IRS, and FERC requirements.
- Initiates and processes journal entries into various accounts.
- Reconciles sub-ledgers to the general ledger and resolves differences.
- Prepares internal and external financial reports, explains accounting transactions, and resolves accounting issues and discrepancies.
- Analyzes RTO transactions, reviews settlements and related reports completed by ACES, and tracks disputes.
- Works closely with various departments and groups to resolve and research issues to ensure RTO purchases and sales are properly reconciled and recorded at month-end.
- Analyzes and validates all other power and transmission revenues and related costs.
- Validates RTO, power, and transmission vendor invoices for payment.
- Analyzes and interprets wholesale contracts and tariffs, identifies required billing system updates, and develops complex billing calculations as needed.
- Ensures the monthly wholesale power billing is prepared accurately and timely.
- Prepares and analyzes transmission billing to entities, as contracts require.
- Analyzes data and prepares month-end sales, purchased power, and transmission journal entries.
- Prepares internal and external financial reports; explains relevant accounting transactions; resolves accounting issues and discrepancies.
- Prepares regulatory filings and reports (e.g. FERC, RUS, and KPSC Fuel Adjustment Clause).
- Prepares annual budget for transmission and wheeling.
- Actively participates in and supports special projects throughout the year.
- Recommends and implements improvements in efficiency and effectiveness.
- Mentors and trains team members.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor¿s degree in a related area required.
- Advanced degrees and/or certifications, including CPA, preferred.
- Five (5) years of related experience.
- Seven (7) years of related experience required to be considered Senior
- Knowledge of electric utility accounting and the RUS or FERC System of Accounts preferred.
- Familiarity with RUS, FERC, and PSC regulations preferred.
- Strong research, analytical, interpretative, and math skills.
- Knowledge of Excel and ERP, with PeopleSoft applications preferred.
- Knowledge of RTO transactions and billing codes, PJM preferred.
- Knowledge of MV-PBS billing system or similar power billing system.
- Knowledge of KPSC regulations.
- Knowledge of tariffs.
- Knowledge of Excel and PeopleSoft applications.
- Knowledge of electric utility accounting, RUS preferred.
- Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
