The Motor Prep Technician is responsible for preparing electric motors and related rotating equipment for repair, rewind, or rebuild. This role involves disassembly, cleaning, inspection support, and staging of components while maintaining safety, quality, and shop efficiency standards.
- Disassemble electric motors, pumps, and related rotating equipment using hand and power tools
- Tag, label, and organize motor components for accurate reassembly
- Clean motor parts using solvents, wash tanks, sand blasting, or other approved methods
- Remove bearings, couplings, fans, and other mechanical components
- Assist with initial inspection and report visible damage, wear, or abnormalities to technicians or supervisors
- Prepare stators and rotors for rewind or repair processes
- Operate shop equipment such as presses, ovens, burn-off ovens, and cleaning systems (as trained)
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
- Follow lockout/tagout, PPE, and safety procedures at all times
- Support technicians with material handling and job staging
- Complete basic job documentation and work orders as required
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools
- Ability to read work orders and follow instructions
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Willingness to learn electric motor repair processes
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
- Experience in an electric motor repair shop or industrial maintenance environment
- Familiarity with bearings, shafts, and rotating equipment
- Forklift or overhead crane experience
- Basic understanding of electric motor components
- Use of PPE including gloves, eye protection, and steel-toe footwear
