Founded in 1979, Astbury Water Technology, Inc. (Astbury) is a leading provider of water and sewer utility operations and maintenance (O&M) services. With three office-laboratory locations and three regulated water and/or sewer utilities throughout Indiana, we have the resources to support customers with a full range of services, including system management, routine O&M, laboratory analysis, and customer billing. Our organization’s success is a direct result of dedicated and hardworking employees, high standards of service and ethics, and a unique offering of services and solutions. Astbury, which continues to be family-owned and operated, maintains an entrepreneurial business philosophy dedicated to serving the market’s needs.
Astbury has an immediate opening for a wastewater operator or apprentice to be based out of its Indianapolis headquarters. Ideally, we are seeking an individual with an Indiana Wastewater Operator’s License to assist in the operation of treatment systems around central Indiana, but are happy to also talk to individuals with a strong interest or background in this field who are interested in working towards licensure. This position involves operating and maintaining Class I/II Wastewater Treatment/Collection Systems. All laboratory testing is done by our in-house network, so duties are limited to routine operations and maintenance, including field testing, equipment adjustments, periodic “on-call” responsibilities, and monthly reporting.
Other tasks might include oversight of subcontractors and Astbury associates, scheduling and reporting preventative maintenance, and related duties. Candidates must be reliable, flexible, and willing to learn. This position is ideal for those who are self-motivated and can handle working independently at times.
Candidates must possess experience or a strong interest in operating Wastewater Treatment Systems and knowledge of maintenance and repair-related tasks specific to electrical, mechanical, and infrastructure components commonly located within these systems. Repair and construction skills and experience are also beneficial.
Candidates must have a high degree of flexibility and reliability, in addition to experience. Astbury offers a wide array of services and prefers to keep employees somewhat interchangeable, so we are seeking job candidates who are capable of and interested in learning and performing a range of related tasks and projects. Also, in emergency situations, employees will sometimes need to be on-call nights, weekends, and holidays.
Special preference is given to candidates that possess higher levels of Wastewater and/or Water Licenses, lift station maintenance capabilities, college or associates degrees, technical and mechanical capabilities, and/or electrical skills or certification.
Compensation is based on experience, and this position has significant advancement potential. We offer competitive pay, career advancement, paid time-off, health insurance, on-call stipends, company vehicles, and 401k retirement plans. We are strongly committed to retaining talented and hard-working employees. Astbury is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
Additional compensation will be considered for: electrical and/or mechanical certification or capabilities, lift station maintenance capabilities, greater levels of experience and education, managerial experience, and higher levels of Indiana Wastewater and/or Water Operator Licenses.
We wish to fill this position as soon as possible; if you are interested and feel you are well-suited, please apply via Indeed.
