At JW Hicks, we are looking for talented individuals to join our growing team in Knox, Indiana. Currently we are looking to add an experienced machinist. We have a passion for producing the best refractory products on the market and are seeking individuals with an entrepreneurial spirit and heart for "Doing it Right."
Candidates must have hands-on experience in set-up, programming and operation of CNC Lathes and Milling machines, manual lathes and milling machines as well as knowledge and use of precision measuring tools and hands-on assembly experience. An ability to write a CNC program at machine controls, while also being able to efficiently and effectively set-up jobs on machine is also required. The ability to modify programs as necessary, install tool registers, offset and compensation is also a preferred skill.
Key operations of this role include the use of CNC Lathes and Mills, power and hand tools, precision tools, and any other required tools and/or equipment by performing the duties below. This position requires expertise in reading detailed prints/drawings. In addition, this role will also require comprehensive knowledge and experience in fixturing and equipment setup. Candidate must be a strong communicator, independent worker, team player, and have the drive to learn and adapt.
This position requires attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently. The ideal candidate will be reliable and have a strong work ethic.
- Proficiency in set up, programming and operating CNC lathe and milling machines to perform machining operations according to drawing specifications
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and job orders to determine dimensions and tolerances and part requirements
- Use Precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, bore gages and other measuring instruments to ensure accuracy of machined parts
- Familiarity with tooling, hand tools, and power tools and cutting techniques for CNC machining
- Perform quality checks throughout the machining process to maintain high standards of precision
- Make adjustments to machine settings as needed to achieve desired results
- Inspect finished products for defects and ensure they meet customer requirements
- Responsible for preventative maintenance and good housekeeping to ensure good quality and continuation of safe operation
- Maintaining tools and equipment and keep supplies and parts in good working order with a clean work area, machines, tools and equipment
- Confer with supervisors, engineering, production personnel or other team members to resolve manufacturing problems. Report shortages of parts, tools, and materials in a timely manner
- Operate power equipment and material handling equipment (forklifts, cranes, etc.)
- Ability to build jigs and fixtures as well as use mainframe computer
- Experience with programming CNC machines using 3D models or 2D prints, and CNC programming languages
- Create CNC programs without the use of CAM software
- Familiarity with CAD software for creating or modifying part designs
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to fifty pounds
- Strong comprehension of G and M Code programming or Mazatrol. Must be able to make edit to G and M code without the use of CAM software
- Adherence to safety procedures/guidelines at all times
- The position requires punctuality, consistent attendance and self-direction for the success of the operations
- 2 years CNC machining experience and 1 year manufacturing/industrial experience
- Proficiency in basic math skills for measurements and calculations
- Experience with use of manual lathes and mills a plus
