Our client is looking for an experienced Project Manager to oversee and execute commercial and military ship repair contracts valued up to $100M. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes full ownership of project success from start to finish. A strong and thorough understanding of ships and ship systems is essential for this role.
Our client is seeking someone who can communicate effectively and lead confidently, building strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders—including owners, managers, estimators, engineers, subcontractors, supervisors, and production teams.
- Demonstrating a solid understanding of government contracts, estimating methods, and project scheduling.
- Negotiating contract changes with customers when necessary.
- Possessing hands-on experience aboard ships and strong knowledge of marine engineering and shipboard equipment.
- Reading and interpreting complex specifications, diagrams, blueprints, technical manuals, test procedures, and NAVSEA Standard Items.
- Applying core Project Management principles, such as scheduling and work sequencing, risk management, earned value, performance monitoring, and change management.
- Coordinating labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors to keep projects on track.
- Leading daily and weekly meetings with everyone from executive management to customers, including production meetings, progress updates, conferences, and formal reviews.
- At least
3 years of experience
is recommended for the PM-I level (exceptions may be made for exceptional performers).
- Ability to manage smaller ship repair projects ranging from $100K to $1M, often with departmental support.
- Comfortable operating semi-autonomously while still seeking guidance from senior leadership when needed.
- Proficient with MS Office and capable of engaging with customers—including minor contract negotiations—with minimal supervision.
- Understanding of basic financial project management principles.
- A college degree is required, although equivalent experience may be considered.
- A PMP certification or similar credential is preferred.
