Founded in 1986, Atlantic Fabricating Company is a woman-owned small business specializing in machining, fabrication, and electro-mechanical assembly. We support industries including nuclear, energy, and advanced manufacturing from our fully equipped 18,000 sq ft facility.
We are seeking an experienced Lead Welder / Fabricator to oversee daily operations within our welding department. This role is critical to maintaining high-quality standards in fabrication and welding, ensuring projects are completed accurately, safely, and on time. The Lead Welder / Fabricator serves as the technical leader on the shop floor — interpreting complex drawings, resolving fabrication challenges, and guiding other welders through example and mentorship.
The Lead Welder / Fabricator is responsible for performing advanced welding and fabrication tasks while coordinating workflow, mentoring two welders, and supporting the department’s alignment with company goals. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, this individual will help drive efficiency, quality, and safety across the welding department while contributing to the adoption of the Fulcrum ERP system for workflow tracking and production visibility.
- Perform hands-on welding using MIG and TIG processes on stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum
- Read and interpret complex fabrication drawings, layouts, and weld symbols
- Carry out fitting, tacking, assembly, and final weld-out of components ranging from small precision parts to large welded structures
- Ensure weld quality and compliance with AWS and customer standards
- Direct daily job flow within the welding department, ensuring priorities are met and projects remain on schedule
- Supervise and mentor two welders, providing technical guidance, training, and performance feedback
- Coordinate with the Operations Manager and Quality team to align production and inspection needs
- Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement within the department
- Maintain compliance with AWS D1.1 and D1.6 codes; support certification efforts for ASME B31.1/B31.3 and other standards as Atlantic expands
- Work closely with quality and operations staff to ensure consistent practices and code adherence
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized welding areas in line with company and safety standards
- Use Fulcrum ERP to track jobs, log hours, and provide visibility into departmental progress
- Assist with developing best practices for workflow, production planning, and efficiency improvements- 7+ years of welding and fabrication experience, with extensive MIG and TIG expertise
- Proficiency in stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum welding
- Strong ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and weld symbols
- Familiarity with AWS D1.1, D1.6 required; ASME B31.1/B31.3 experience strongly preferred
- Proven leadership experience, including supervision or mentorship of other welders/fabricators
- Hands-on knowledge of layout, fitting, and fabrication techniques
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- ERP or job-tracking software experience a plus (Fulcrum preferred)
This is a full-time, growth-oriented role designed for someone who can combine welding expertise with leadership. As Atlantic continues to expand into power generation and pressure vessel work, this position will be central to building departmental capability and maintaining top-tier quality.
