Job Title: Senior Research Scientist

Position Summary:

We are seeking a senior hands-on Organic Chemist to join our R&D team. The successful candidate will focus on bench-scale organic and polymer synthesis as well as small molecule and polymer characterization while being able to operate in a fast-paced and agile startup environment. This role is best suited for a motivated chemist who enjoys hands-on lab work, designing synthetic methodology, producing designer materials, and contributing to multi-disciplinary project teams.

Objectives & Responsibilities

- Independently review scientific literature to design, plan, and execute multistep organic syntheses.

- Interpret experimental results and refine reaction conditions to achieve desired output.

- Purify and isolate compounds using chromatography, crystallization, and/or distillation.

- Characterize products using NMR, IR, UV-Vis, GPC/SEC, and other pertinent analytical methods.

- Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and data records.

- Prepare written summaries of experimental procedures and results for presentation with peer groups and leadership adjusting communication styles accordingly.

- Support process optimization and scale-up activities as needed.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in materials science, chemical engineering, and process development.

- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards and company policies.

- Engage in IP development and design specific experiments to facilitate and support this goal.

- Apply common project management practices to propose, execute, and update project plans with feedback from peers and leadership.

Experience & Qualifications

- Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or a related field.

- Bachelors with 8+ years of relevant industry laboratory experience OR Masters/ PhD with 5+ years of hands-on experience in synthetic organic chemistry.

- Demonstrated ability to independently conduct and analyze organic reactions.

- Familiarity with purification and characterization methods for polymers and small molecules.

- Strong organizational and communication skills.

- A commitment to continuous improvement.

- Strong focus on chemical safety and risk mitigation and/or elimination.

- Startup experience is a plus.
