The Engineering and Technical Services organization serves as a technical resource for the Company as it relates to the design, construction, and operation of facilities and pipe used in the transportation and storage of natural gas and crude oil. In addition to partnering with Operations to assess and maintain our existing assets, we play an integral role in new projects – from conception to completion.
As a Piping Drafter Intern, you will be a vital part of our engineering team, learning the intricacies of piping design and drafting. You will work closely with experienced professionals to develop process flow and piping and instrumentation diagrams, electrical drawings and layouts to help ensure accuracy and adherence to Tallgrass and standard industry standards.
- Assist in creating process and piping type drawings, including diagrams, general arrangements, and details.
- Learn and utilize CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) to create and modify diagrams and drawings.
- Understand and apply piping codes, standards, and specifications.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to ensure project accuracy and efficiency.
- Research and analyze piping systems and components.
- Assist in preparing material requisitions and bill of materials.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in piping design.
- Best practices for drawing structure and design
- Practical application of drafting and design principles
- Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) creation and updates
Student actively pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering or a related field with a preferred expected graduation date of December 2025 through December 2027.
- Strong understanding of basic engineering principles and drafting techniques.
- Proficiency in CAD software, preferably AutoCAD or Inventor.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented and organized.
- A passion for learning and growing in the field of piping design.
Our internships are temporary full-time positions, in-person/remote hybrid at our Lakewood, CO office. We will host our Summer 2026 interns from May-August for 10 weeks.
- Pay Range $23.12-$31.01 USD hourly
- You may be eligible for a stipend to subsidize housing costs
- The final pay for this role will depend on a variety of factors, including a specific candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, and working location. The total compensation package for this role may also include overtime pay, paid time off, a housing stipend, and more.
