The role
This role is responsible for operating the base radio in compliance with FCC and YVEA regulations, coordinating field communications and work assignments, and ensuring accurate logging of all system activity. The position also provides excellent customer service by handling outage reports, scheduling electrical inspections, processing line locates, and assisting members with inquiries. This position plays a key role in ensuring efficient communication, safety, and service delivery across our electrical system operations.
Key responsibilities
•Operates the base radio in accordance with FCC and YVEA rules. Completes daily radio checks and communicates with personnel in the field; dispatch of work assignments such as restoration of power, daily work activities, customer meter activities such as connects, disconnects, reads, etc., emergency communication to 911 services, supply of information to field personnel such as mapping data, address and location information, transformer and meter numbers, system configuration and open points, etc., daily radio checks.
•Provides customer service by coordinating requested line locates, scheduling member electrical inspections for hook-up, and working closely with the billing, engineering departments, and electricians.
•Responds to incoming calls related to power outages, streetlight or security light service, property access, and construction schedule questions.
•Coordinates switching orders in accordance with Operating Procedure 900 by issuing switching order number; by issuing clearances to crews for hot and deadline work, by reviewing reports, logs and other communications to be aware of unusual system conditions, with other utilities and holds source of power permits with the transmission groups.
•Maintains logs and reports: for radio and telephone contacts, for switching operations, for job orders, streetlight and security light orders, CRC Link afterhours dispatching service for communications regarding system work with subcontractors (tree trimmers, line contractors, excavators, line locators, etc.)
•Processes reports for operations and engineering department as follows: compiles monthly outage data for engineering report, prepares and maintains files on job briefings, job orders, etc., compiles data for monthly KPA reports, prepares invoices for after-hours work on customer facilities or for damage to YVEA equipment.
•Provides basic administrative and clerical support to the operations team.
•Create Work Orders/ Service Orders for Damages, Vegetation Management, Maintenance, etc.
Key experience
•High school diploma or Associates degree (preferred in an electrical related field) .
•Minimum of two years' experience in customer service or emergency services environment.
•Cooperative or utility experience preferred.
•One year experience in utility dispatch department, preferred.
Key skills
•Ability to accurately input and interpret data.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
•Experience with SCADA, Command Center, Map Viewer, AVLand iVue (Scheduler, Service, OMS, Financials) preferred.
•Must demonstrate acceptable telephone and radio voice projection with good enunciation.
•Must display calm, steady bearing with courteous telephone manners.
•Ability to exercise independent judgment and work in emergency situations with speed and accuracy.
•Ability to comprehend system diagrams and circuit maps.
•Understand basic system electrical protection and be aware of current system configuration and open points.
•Handle multiple tasks with ease and remain organized.
