Central San, a progressive public utility, is seeking a temporary Staff Engineer. This temporary position is expected to last approximately one year and is the entry-level classification in the professional engineering series. Assigned to the Environmental and Regulatory Compliance Division of the Engineering and Technical Services Department, the position will perform apprentice-level professional engineering work in the environmental compliance, planning, and investigation of Central San’s wastewater treatment plant and related facilities.

- Ability to handle multiple projects while balancing District priorities and objectives.
- Strong data analytical skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
The successful candidate may perform the following duties:
- Perform data analyses of wastewater treatment plant processes.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports and correspondences to demonstrate conformance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Assist in the preparation of environmental permit applications and subsequent implementation of permit requirements.
- Apply engineering knowledge and assist in conducting root cause analyses to investigate compliance issues related to wastewater processes.
- Support treatment plant’s compliance emissions testing program and conduct occasional emissions verifications.
- Interpret regulations and technical studies and assist in the development of compliance assurance strategies.
- Perform environmental inspections within the treatment plant.
- Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and engineering staff to meet regulatory obligations, including compliance training, development of standard operating procedures, and process controls improvements.
- Assist with pilot projects and special studies to ensure future regulatory compliance.
- Assist in the management of Power BI databases and dashboards.
Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in engineering or a closely related field.
