Distribution utilities across the globe are undergoing efforts related to grid electrification and EV integration which represents an unprecedented transformation of the distribution system. This electrification transition creates significant challenges and opportunities for distribution planners to ensure an effective transition. It will also challenge the status-quo for how we plan and operate the system which creates a significant need for new research and development. Combined with the growing availability of new data and a workforce that is slowly retiring, this creates an exciting opportunity for young professionals to have an impact onto a rapidly evolving industry.
The EPRI Distribution Operations and Planning team leads research to advance the processes, tools, technology and workforce required for a modern distribution system. The research program is broad, with subject matter experts working on topics across planning, operations, protection, and analytics.
The team is continuously expanding their skillset from power system modeling, coding, tool development, big data analytics, machine-learning and AI algorithms, etc.
This position supports distribution system modeling, simulation, and analysis to enable higher penetration levels of EVs on the electrical grid.
