Kern Energy is looking for an Accountant II who performs moderately complex accounting tasks with a high level of independence. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing balance sheets, income statements, and other financial reports, and supporting management in budgeting and forecasting. The Accountant II also plays a key role in ensuring compliance with internal controls, GAAP, and regulatory requirements. Job Function
•Perform intermediate-level accounting tasks, including the preparation and analysis of financial reports and journal entries.
•Maintain general ledger accounts, perform account reconciliations, and assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including accrual, prepaid & expense allocations.
•Support preparing balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards.
•Conduct variance analysis on financial data to assist in budgeting and forecasting.
•Collect, validate, and record accurate production data related to input feedstocks, output products, quantities, and quality specifications for designated locations.
•Assist in implementing and ensuring compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements, focusing on accuracy and adherence to established standards.
•Work with other departments to gather relevant financial information and support decision-making.
•Assist in coordinating audits by preparing documentation and liaising with auditors as needed.
•Contribute to financial analysis, cost control projects, and various accounting initiatives as directed by the Accounting Manager.
•Maintain organized financial records, supporting documentation, and audit trails to ensure readiness for audits and internal reviews.
•Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge Skills
•Strong understanding of accounting principles, including GAAP, accounting procedures, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
•A quick learner, with the ability to analyze financial data, detect anomalies, interpret compliance requirements, and handle the pressure of an increasing level of responsibility.
•Familiarity with Government reporting.
•Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping and data analysis.
•Must show accountability, be a team player, and operate with a sense of urgency.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and familiar with SAP or similar ERP systems, including the ability to analyze a large volume of transaction data.
•Ability to take initiative, work independently with moderate supervision, and collaborate effectively with team members across departments.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with team members, management, and other stakeholders.
•Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask and handle multiple demands from multiple departments, particularly under time constraints.
•Demonstrate the highest level of personal ethics and professional integrity.
Education/ Experience
•Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
•2-4 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally focusing on cost or production accounting.
•3+ years of experience in General Ledger Accounting (required)
•Experience in the Oil & Gas or Manufacturing industries is preferred.
