The Technology and Process Innovation team leads the following aspects within Weir, with a global remit, to bring new-to-Weir and new-to-mining flow sheets, product concepts, and technologies to benefit our customers:
- Build future technology pipeline
- Technology scouting & assessment
- Technology acquisitions
- Enterprise technology roadmap development and execution
- New sustainable solutions development
- Sustainable solutions delivery
- Technology partner development
- Process design, new flowsheet and product concepts development
- Promote and drive in-house innovation
This role will support the team through both thought leadership and provision of subject matter expertise in slurry solutions. You will be driving technology advancements and innovations in hydrotransport, slurry pipelines and slurry pumping, and will be joining an existing community of world-class experts in slurry pumping across the business. Your focus will extend beyond product range extensions and into maturing lower TRL innovations, leveraging both internal and external sources of innovation. You will also bring a solution-level view of problem solving and opportunity identification.

Key Responsibilities:
- Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviours in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.
- Support technology scouting and assessment of new technology in slurry solutions, including pumping, hydrotransport, etc.
- Support enterprise technology roadmap development and execution relating to slurry solutions technologies.
- Lead slurry solutions and hydrotransport design, product concepts developments, and integrated solutions for slurry solutions.
- Leading test work plans and analysis of results to support the above.
- Support and provide occasional subject matter expertise to sales opportunities, particularly on a flow sheet or solution level.
- Developing selection tools for slurry solutions., including techno-economic evaluation.
- Provide effective leadership by directing engineers and designers within the technical team and collaborating with stakeholders.
- Occasional support in M&A and corporate development activities for slurry solutions technology, including supporting techno-economic evaluation.
- Foster internal innovation and IP generation in slurry solutions as part of the Technology and Process Innovation leadership team.
- Bring your existing knowledge of new and future developments in slurry pumping, hydrotransport, and slurry pipelines to further grow our pipeline of growth technologies & differentiating innovations and capabilities.
- Support and collaborate with colleagues in adjacent fields (including separation, tailings solutions, process and equipment simulation and development, and comminution) to deliver integrated flow sheet solutions to customers.
- Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline is required.
- Masters or PhD in Mechanical Engineering is highly desirable.
- Chartered registered engineer certification is desirable.
- At least 10 years’ equivalent work experience in similar role in pumping and pumping systems.
- Deep knowledge of, and experience with, a wide variety of pumping solutions and equipment, flow sheets, slurry characterisation, survey and test work.
- Demonstrated thought leadership in a relevant aspect of the role will be highly regarded.
- Demonstrated innovation in pumping and pumping systems.
- Demonstrated research and development experience in a relevant aspect of the role will be highly regarded.
- Extensive knowledge of slurry pipeline and hydrotransport design and related test work methodologies.
- Knowledge and experience of manufacturing processes is desirable.
