Position Highlights
Provides engineering drawing services to internal engineering clients and external service providers to ensure compliance
with BC Hydro records and security policies, industry standards, business guidelines and engineering standards. Performs
quality assurance checks on engineering drawings. Performs some or all the duties of the Drawing Services Assistant job.
- Receives, researches and responds to service requests from internal engineering clients and external service providers,
including overseeing drawing number management (reservations, cancellations, obsolete, unused drawing reservation
numbers), and researching multiple formats (paper, microfiche, registers), systems and physical locations of current and
historical information on applicable BC Hydro assets (e.g. facilities, sub-stations, circuits, transmission lines).
- Performs drawings submittal and transmittal processes, controlling the processes for sign-out and check-in of all records
- Oversees the lifecycle of and access to all Transmission, Generation, and Distribution non-standard CAD drawings, BC
Hydro’s drawing records (electronic masters and physical drawings in the vault). Performs quality assurance checks of new
or revised drawings for compliance with BC Hydro records and security policies, industry standards, business guidelines
and engineering standards and rejects and returns non-compliant work. Performs quality assurance of manual and
electronic versions of drawings received for issuance prior to processing.
- Utilizes the BC Hydro drawing electronic document management system to: enter asset and engineering metadata into
the system, including facility, document type and security/access class; manage drawing Masters (CAD, PDF and
electronically signed PDFs); and research historical information to meet user requests.
- Ensures the accurate electronic CAD Masters and original sealed/signed drawings match, verifying the integrity of
electronically processed signed drawings. Coordinates required drawing printing and distribution to internal and external
recipients for all issued drawings.
- Processes NERC-confidential drawings in compliance with NERC-CIP standards, ensuring compliance with secure
- Monitors and provides input on the effectiveness of departmental procedures and provides input into the development of
processes and training materials that are compliant with engineering standards. Participates in the development and
implementation of electronic system changes and updates in conjunction with the technical support group. Documents
changes to current work practices.
- Provides guidance, instructions and training to incumbents in the Drawing Services Assistant job on the drawing
management process. Supports and informs internal clients and external services providers on standards, processes, and
historical and current processes, and on how to use and access BC Hydro’s drawing management system.
- Performs some or all the duties of the Drawing Services Assistant job.
- Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.
- High School graduation and two (2) years as a Drawing Services Assistant or in a similar role; or an equivalent
- Requires in-house training on records management courses and specific BC Hydro systems (such as FileNet and
McLaren); or must complete in-house training within six (6) months of starting in the job.
