Cargo Sampler/Plant Operator - Flexible Work Schedule

We specialize in providing on-site supervision, sampling, and quality control services for shippers and receivers of various commodities at the Port of Vancouver and surrounding area. We are currently seeking dedicated and self-motivated individuals to join our team as a Cargo Inspectors (CS-1).
As a Cargo Sampler/Inspector, you will play a crucial role in ensuring quality control and accurate sampling of coal at Trigon Terminals. Your responsibilities will include on-the-job training in various inspection functions and sampling activities. This position requires transportation to and from work sites, and occasional operation of a company motor vehicle for official business purposes.
- Receive training in correct methods for drawing representative samples from coal lots.
- Inspect automated sampling plants to ensure proper functionality and condition.
- Record information on standard forms regarding cargo type, quality, and condition during loading/unloading.
- Sample cargo loaded onto vessels and assist in the reduction, preparation, and distribution of samples to third-party laboratories.
- Aid in the cleaning of sampling areas, sampling plants, and related work areas.
- Ability to learn official sampling procedures and methods for multiple cargos.
- Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC driver's license and access to a vehicle.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently.
- Good interpersonal skills, outgoing nature, and trustworthiness.

As a trainee employee, you will work under the guidance of a supervisor who will provide detailed instructions for each phase of your work. Assistance and support will be readily available while you perform your duties, and you can consult with your supervisor as needed.
The position offers a flexible and dynamic work schedule. Working hours can vary from day to day depending on terminal schedules. Shifts can range in length from 4 – 12 hours due to changes to scheduled terminal operations or unexpected events but generally are based on the following:
Day shifts (0800-1630),
Afternoon shifts (1630-0100)
Graveyard shifts (0100-0800).
NOTE: Start and finish times at some locations can vary based on client needs
Compensation starts at $25.00 per hour, with additional $50 premium per graveyard shift.
Wage increases to be expected after a successful probation period along with regular performance reviews, based on your acquired knowledge and willingness to learn throughout employment.
Overtime opportunities may be available based on market conditions.

The work involves moderate physical demands, including climbing stairs, access ladders, railcars, and stockpiles.
Walking on uneven terrain and the ability to stand or sit for extended periods are common requirements.
Manual dexterity is necessary for tasks such as computer work and writing.
The job is performed in an industrial environment, sometimes exposed to varying weather conditions.
Due to the nature of our work environment, which involves situations where respirators may be required for health and safety purposes, all applicants must be capable of maintaining a clean-shaven face to ensure proper respirator function.
