Milestone Industrial Steel is a provider of high-quality structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication. We pride ourselves on precision, safety, and timely project delivery. We are looking for a dedicated and meticulous professional to join our team in a dual-role capacity, managing both our quality control processes and the flow of materials and finished products.
We are seeking an experienced Quality Control & Material/Shipping Manager to ensure that all fabricated steel components meet project specifications, industry standards, and internal quality benchmarks, while also overseeing the efficient handling, tracking, and shipment of all materials. This pivotal role requires strong organizational skills, a keen eye for detail, and a comprehensive understanding of steel fabrication processes.
- Inspection & Testing: Perform in-process and final inspections of fabricated steel, including dimensional checks, fit-up, welding processes, and surface preparation (e.g., before painting/coating).
- Documentation: Maintain meticulous quality records, inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and welder certifications.
- Standard Compliance: Ensure all work adheres to project specifications and relevant industry codes (e.g., AISC, AWS D1.1).
- Calibration: Manage the calibration and maintenance of all QC measuring equipment.
- Root Cause Analysis: Participate in investigating quality issues and implementing corrective and preventative actions.
- Inventory & Tracking: Oversee the receipt, inspection, storage, and inventory of raw materials (steel plates, shapes, fasteners, etc.).
- Material Certification: Verify and organize Material Test Reports (MTRs) to ensure traceability and compliance with project requirements.
- Production Staging: Coordinate with the shop foreman to ensure the correct materials are staged for fabrication according to the production schedule.
- Packaging & Loading: Supervise the safe and accurate packaging, labeling, and loading of finished fabricated steel onto transport vehicles, ensuring compliance with shipping manifests and load requirements.
- Logistics: Coordinate with carriers and project managers to schedule timely shipments and deliveries.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in steel fabrication quality control, material management, or a related field.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of steel fabrication methods, blueprint reading, and welding symbols.
- Certification (Preferred): Current or previous certification as an AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is highly desirable. LA County Certified QC, AISC certified QC
- Software Proficiency: Strumis
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, lift moderate weight, and work in a typical shop environment.
- Soft Skills: Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Must be a self-starter who can manage multiple priorities.
