The Superintendent – Shovel and Drill (S&D) Maintenance is responsible for leading, organizing, and optimizing all maintenance and repair activities for the mine's fleet of electric and hydraulic shovels and blasthole drills. This includes equipment such as P&H 4100 and 2800 series shovels and Epiroc PV351 and PV311 blasthole drills, along with associated support systems and tooling.
This position ensures safe, reliable, and cost-effective equipment performance to support mine production goals. The Superintendent will lead a team of supervisors, planners, and maintenance professionals while driving a culture of accountability, teamwork, technical excellence, and continuous improvement across the S&D maintenance organization.

- Direct and oversee the maintenance and repair of electric and hydraulic shovels (P&H 4100/2800 series) and blasthole drills (Epiroc PV351/PV311).
- Lead the planning, scheduling, and execution of daily, weekly, and long-range maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability and production alignment.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are conducted in compliance with safety and environmental regulations and company policies.
- Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs, including condition monitoring, component tracking, and oil analysis.
- Manage planned outages, component change-outs, and major rebuilds in alignment with OEM specifications and reliability goals.
- Evaluate and manage maintenance backlogs, manpower, and resources to ensure efficiency and timely work execution.
- Collaborate closely with Operations and Mine Planning to align maintenance windows with production priorities.
- Review and approve maintenance plans, work orders, and job hazard assessments to ensure high standards of quality and safety.
- Lead the implementation of reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) practices and ensure completion of root cause failure analyses (RCFA).
- Ensure CMMS data accuracy and the use of data-driven insights to guide maintenance decisions and continuous improvement efforts.
- Develop and manage the annual operating and capital budgets for the S&D maintenance department.
- Track and report maintenance costs, ensuring accurate coding and variance analysis for labor, parts, and contractor expenditures.
- Forecast major component requirements and coordinate rebuilding and replacement schedules with Supply Chain and vendors.
- Maintain adequate inventory of consumables, spares, and tooling to support proactive maintenance execution.
- Manage vendor relationships and evaluate the performance of contractors, rebuild shops, and OEM partners.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through process optimization, reliability improvements, and strategic sourcing.
- Champion a “Safety First” culture by promoting proactive risk identification, behavioral safety, and compliance with MSHA and company policies.
- Ensure proper use of lockout/tagout, confined space, and other critical safety procedures.
- Review incidents, near-misses, and environmental events, ensuring that corrective actions are completed and communicated across teams.
- Maintain compliance with environmental standards related to fluid handling, waste management, and contamination control.
- Lead by example, reinforcing a culture where every employee is empowered and accountable for safety and environmental excellence.
- Drive continuous improvement in reliability, maintenance efficiency, and overall equipment performance.
- Partner with the Reliability and Engineering teams to identify recurring equipment issues and develop long-term corrective strategies.
- Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as availability, utilization, Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), and cost per operating hour.
- Utilize predictive maintenance data to identify trends and proactively address potential failures.
- Lead initiatives to standardize maintenance procedures, improve quality, and reduce variability across shifts and crews.
- Support the adoption of digital maintenance tools, automation, and technology advancements in S&D maintenance.
- Establish and sustain a high-performance culture built on teamwork, integrity, accountability, and technical excellence.

- Extensive knowledge of large electric and hydraulic shovel systems (P&H 4100/2800 series or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of blasthole drill systems (Epiroc PV351/PV311 or equivalent).
- Deep understanding of preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance methodologies.
- Proficiency in planning, scheduling, and CMMS applications.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability with data-driven decision-making.
- Demonstrated skill in budget development, cost control, and performance reporting.
- Thorough understanding of MSHA and environmental regulations.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across departments and organizational levels.
- High degree of initiative, adaptability, and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Mining Engineering, OR
- Equivalent combination of education and experience with a minimum of 15 years of progressive maintenance leadership experience, including 5 years in a supervisory or superintendent role within open-pit mining.
- Demonstrated experience managing maintenance for P&H shovels and Epiroc blasthole drills (or comparable fleets).
- Experience implementing reliability-centered maintenance or autonomous drilling systems.
- Proven success improving equipment performance metrics and reducing maintenance costs.
- Experience managing large multi-shift maintenance teams and cross-functional collaboration.
- Advanced training in maintenance management, leadership development, or continuous improvement (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).
