We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient General Supervisor – Reliability to lead and elevate the performance of our reliability engineering team at a major copper mining operation in Arizona. This pivotal role is responsible for driving equipment reliability improvement initiatives across critical rotating assets, applying root cause analysis, and embedding a culture of accountability and results within the maintenance organization.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in mining equipment reliability, a proven track record in leadership, and the ability to align reliability strategies with production and maintenance goals. You will lead a team of engineers and specialists, ensuring high availability and performance of essential assets including crushers, mills, conveyors, pumps, and mobile mining equipment, etc.
- Lead and manage a team of reliability engineers and specialists focused on improving equipment reliability and minimizing unplanned downtime.
- Develop and implement reliability strategies and predictive maintenance plans for rotating and fixed mining equipment.
- Utilize advanced Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methods to investigate equipment failures, identify systemic issues, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Apply critical thinking and structured problem-solving methodologies to drive performance improvements.
- Set clear expectations and performance standards for the reliability team, ensuring accountability and delivery of measurable results.
- Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and planning teams to integrate reliability initiatives with daily activities and long-term strategies.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and reliability metrics to assess equipment performance, team efficiency, and project success.
- Oversee condition monitoring programs (vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, etc.) and ensure effective data interpretation and follow-up actions.
- Leverage predictive analytics tools and machine learning models developed in the AVEVA system to proactively identify failure patterns, optimize maintenance strategies, and reduce equipment downtime.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development for reliability engineers and technical staff.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards in all reliability initiatives and equipment modifications.
- Drive continuous improvement through innovation, standardization, and effective change management.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline (required).
- Minimum 7 years of professional experience in maintenance and reliability within heavy industry, preferably mining.
- At least 3 years of direct supervisory experience leading engineering or reliability teams.
- Demonstrated experience in rotating equipment including crushers, mills, pumps, conveyors, and mobile mining assets.
- Proven experience conducting and leading Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) using industry-standard methodologies.
- Strong knowledge of predictive and preventive maintenance techniques and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).
- Solid understanding of maintenance systems (e.g., SAP, CMMS), reliability software, and data analysis tools.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with a passion for mentoring and developing technical talent.
- Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Results-driven mindset with a high degree of accountability, ownership, and business acumen.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and interface effectively with multiple departments.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP)
- Experience in large open-pit copper mining operations.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma or Lean methodologies.
