The Construction and Mine Site Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing safety programs across construction and mining operations, with a strong emphasis on regulatory compliance, hazard prevention, and workforce training. This position supports projects located in remote areas of Alaska and requires a high level of physical fitness, adaptability, and broad safety expertise to operate in challenging arctic environments.
- Ensure full compliance with MSHA and OSHA regulations across construction and mine sites
- Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific safety programs, policies, and procedures
- Conduct safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments
- Lead incident investigations and prepare detailed reports with corrective actions
- Deliver safety training, orientations, and toolbox talks to employees and contractors
- Promote a strong safety culture through effective communication and leadership
- Maintain accurate safety documentation, logs, and regulatory records
- Provide guidance and support to management and field personnel on safety matters
- Utilize computer systems and software for reporting, training, and compliance tracking
- Serve as a safety liaison with regulatory agencies, clients, and site leadership
- CHST, CSP, or minimum of four (4) years of professional safety experience in construction and/or mining environments
- Strong working knowledge of MSHA and OSHA regulations
- Broad, general safety knowledge across multiple disciplines (construction, mining, industrial safety, environmental awareness, emergency response, etc.)
- Excellent computer skills, including reporting and documentation tools
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and social skills
- Proven training and presentation skills
- Must be fit for duty and capable of working in remote Alaska locations
- Ability to perform work in arctic and extreme weather conditions
- Willingness to travel and remain on-site for extended rotations, as required
- Must successfully pass a Urinalysis (UA) drug test
- Must pass a medical physical examination
- Must pass a Fit for Duty evaluation
- Experience working in remote or rotational work environments
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
