As a member of the Gathering & Processing – Central Operations team, the Plant Operator will be based at the Strachan Gas Plant, located southwest of Rocky Mountain House. This role supports operations at a First Class ABSA-rated gas processing facility and performs intermediate-level operating assignments in accordance with established procedures, safe work practices, and regulatory requirements.
The Intermediate Plant Operator works under the direction of senior operations staff while continuing to develop technical depth, operational judgment, and plant knowledge with a clear pathway to progression into a Senior Plant Operator role
- Assist with the safe, reliable, and efficient day-to-day operation of the Strachan Gas Plant.
- Perform assigned operating duties on plant equipment, systems, and processes in accordance with approved procedures.
- Monitor plant conditions, operating parameters, and equipment performance; recognize and escalate abnormal or upset conditions.
- Operate the facility in a safe, economical, and efficient manner while meeting production, quality, and environmental requirements.
- Conduct routine inspections, product sampling, and support quality control activities.
- Participate in preventative maintenance activities and work collaboratively with Maintenance to support equipment reliability and integrity.
- Support contractor activities, including site orientation and on-site coordination.
- Participate in the review, modification, and continuous improvement of operating procedures and safe work practices.
- Support Engineering, Health & Safety, Environmental, and Maintenance teams with operational initiatives and improvement projects.
- Actively participate in training, competency development, and qualification programs required for progression to Senior Operator.
- 2nd Class Power Engineering Certificate, or clear progression to obtaining a 2nd Class within a years' time.
- Technical diploma from NAIT/SAIT (or relevant diploma/degree from an accredited institution) is an asset.
- 10 years’ previous applicable experience related to Natural Gas Plant Processing.
- Strong commitment to Health, Safety, and the Environment.
- Self-starter who can work independently with a minimum of supervision.
- Team player with proven communication, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
- Highly organized, reliable individual with attention to detail.
- Valid H2S Alive, WHMIS, TDG and First Aid Certificates would be an asset.
- Must be able to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule.
- Physically able to perform all components of the position.
- This role is subject pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol testing and ongoing compliance with the company’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.
- This role requires the candidate to wear respiratory protective equipment. As per Alberta OHS 250(2), the candidate must ensure an adequate seal where the face piece of the equipment seals to the skin of the face.
- A valid driver’s license and ability to provide 5-year standard driver abstract (clean driver’s abstract).
