THE POSITION
The
Operations Engineeris responsible for providing daily technical support to operations and maintenance, ensuring safe, efficient, reliable performance of the facility, and coordination and execution of MOC’s. The role involves troubleshooting process issues, optimizing performance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve operational challenges. The Operations Engineer provides real-time technical support, monitors process performance, and contributes to long-term asset reliability and risk mitigation efforts.
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day technical support to operations, maintenance, and other engineering disciplines including troubleshooting, issue resolution, and input and approval for safety control bypasses to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Ability to work in a cross-functional team to resolve operational challenges and maintain reliable asset performance.
- Support coordination and execution of management of change (MOC) projects, including up front screening and prioritization of MOC’s requests.
- Provide engineering design, in their discipline engineering field, for assigned MOCs. This includes generating and stamping engineering documents and work packages.
- Develop cost and schedule estimates for MOC projects and be responsible for tracking to those targets.
- Work closely with the Asset Optimization Engineer to identify and implement optimization opportunities. Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, process stability, and energy efficiency.
- Facilitate and participate in risk assessments, root cause and incident investigations as required. Support the Operational Risk Engineer in ensuring compliance with operational safety standards and risk management practices.
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, project files, and engineering calculations.
- Provide turnaround and outage support as required.
- Support and provide input into corporate reliability programs and maintenance strategies.
- Promote and participate in cross-functional knowledge-sharing to enhance team capabilities and troubleshooting effectiveness.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior engineers, operators and maintenance on process best practices.
- Provide input and support to major projects, as assigned, to provide site engineering perspective.
- Proven ability to deliver technical support for complex operating facilities and execute high-value optimization initiatives.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to influence across multidisciplinary teams.
- Comfortable working independently in field-based environments with a proactive, self-starter mindset.
- Must be located within a reasonable commuting distance of a Keyera operating facility in the Drayton Valley, Rocky Mountain House, and Rimbey area. The position will be field based.
- Engineering degree (Mechanical, Chemical, or equivalent); P.Eng. designation in Alberta required.
- 5+ years of experience in operations engineering, process troubleshooting, and reliability within the energy sector. Field based experience will be considered an asset.- Strong knowledge of Management of Change (MOC) processes, risk assessment methodologies, and operational safety standards.
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards (ASME, API, CSA, ABSA).
