The HSE Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive health and safety programs in alignment with the Alberta OHS legislation, CSA standards, and company requirements. This role conducts equipment hazard assessments, develops safe work practices, leads incident and near-miss investigations with root cause analysis, and oversees key safety programs. The position performs audits, inspections, emergency response drills, maintains safety documentation, and delivers ongoing training. Working closely with management, the HSE Coordinator provides expert guidance to strengthen safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and support safe operations in a fast-paced, high-tech manufacturing environment.
· Develop and implement safety programs in compliance with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Code, CSA standards, and company standards.
· Develop equipment hazard assessments, safe work practices and task procedures.
· Serve as the company’s Competent Safety Officer, ensuring compliance with Part 2 of the Alberta OHS Code.
· Lead investigations into incidents and near-misses, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
· Oversee lockout/tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, and energy isolation procedures.
· Manage laser safety protocols in accordance with CSA Z386 and ANSI Z136 standards.
· Ensure safe operation and training for forklifts.
· Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and emergency response drills.
· Maintain safety documentation, including SDSs, training records, and inspection logs.
· Deliver safety orientation and ongoing training to all employees and contractors.
· In-depth knowledge of Alberta OHS Act, Regulation, and Code.
· Familiarity with CSA standards related to lasers and PME.
· Strong communication and leadership skills to influence safety culture.
· Analytical skills for incident investigation and risk mitigation.
· Proficiency in EHS software, Microsoft Office, Sharepoint, and safety reporting.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-tech manufacturing environment.
· Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
· Appropriate safety qualifications and training, MSO/NCSO or similar. CRSP and CSP welcome to apply.
· Laser Safety Officer (LSO) certification strongly recommended.
· Forklift and PME trainer level certification an asset.
· Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
