Tidewater Midstream and Infrastructure Ltd., with Local Union 431, have an immediate vacancy for a Plant Operator. This is a permanent position based in Drayton Valley, AB. The primary role of this position will be maintaining piping and related systems in support of the daily operations at the Brazeau River Complex. Day and night shifts, rotation is 7 days on, 7 days off, 12 hour shifts. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring work is executed in a timely, safe, and effective manner consistent with corporate and site-specific policies, procedures and guidelines.
This position continues the incumbent’s training and development within the plant operations.
The incumbent will perform routine duties without direct supervision and may require some independent action and mature judgment in problem solving. Direct supervision from senior plant operators is provided to assist in troubleshooting non-routine operating problems.
The incumbent is involved with the operation of the plant process system, including the operation of high-pressure steam, turbines/pumps and high-pressure process equipment, and may also be responsible for assisting in the general operation and maintenance of the production wells, water wells, and wastewater injection wells.
This position may be required to be on-call during the work cycle.
· Under the direction of the Superintendent or Maintenance Coordinator and with the assistance of engineers as required, operate and maintain the plant in a safe manner and in accordance with the Safety Codes Act and Power Engineers’ Regulations.
· Assist senior plant operators in optimizing the plant process by adjusting equipment, and/or creating work orders for repairs.
· Review equipment status and assure equipment is available to meet production targets.
· Identify and implement ideas to improve productivity, efficiency, and/or safety.
· Report to the chief power engineer any condition that may jeopardize the safety of the plant.
· Maintain accurate log sheets, logbooks, production reporting and compliance files.
· Provide up-to-date plant status reports on request.
· Report, verbally and in writing, safety concerns and changes to equipment status to relief personnel at shift change.
· Report all near misses and incidents to supervisor in a timely manner.
· Take immediate action to rectify identified unsafe conditions.
· Perform a Hazards evaluation before commencing non-routine tasks and record such assessment on appropriate forms.
· Assist with the development of Standard and Critical Operating guidelines.
· Work closely with maintenance to ensure all work is done safely and effectively.
· Identify tasks or actions to be handled independently, delegated or referred to others.
· Notify the senior plant operators or plant foreman of decisions made.
· Assist with the actions to be taken under plant upset conditions.
· Maintain and operate equipment in a safe and acceptable way as per manufacturer’s specifications.
· Minimum grade 12, or equivalent combination of education and experience
· Minimum of either 24 months as plant operator or 36 months experience in operating a sour gas plant and field
· Complete the training requirement for this operator level
· GPO 1 or GPO A&B or SOLIS A&B or NAIT / SAIT Power Engineering Diploma
· 3rd or 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate of Competency
· Work independently and in a self motivated manner
· Demonstrated ability to coach and train others
