PetroChina Canada (PCC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of PetroChina Company Limited which is partially owned by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), a state-owned enterprise. CNPC is China's largest oil company and the world's third largest oil company, operating 91 energy-related projects in over 35 countries and regions. PCC has invested billions of dollars in an asset-rich portfolio of upstream, midstream and downstream operations. In Alberta, this includes our MacKay River and Dover oilsands projects, Duvernay Shale Gas and a 50% interest in the Grand Rapids Pipeline. In British Columbia, we hold joint venture interests in the Groundbirch tight gas project and LNG Canada.
PetroChina Canada is recruiting for a Financial Accountant, with the ability to communicate fluently at a professional level, in Mandarin, both in verbal and written communication, to join the Finance & Accounting Team in Calgary.
Reporting to the Lead, Assets & Financial Reporting, the Financial Accountant’s focus will be liaising with HQ (in Beijing) and acting as one of the primary contacts and coordinators with Head Office for the Controlling department. This will include the requirement of translating reporting requests from Mandarin to English and preparing the reports in Mandarin to submit to HQ. As well, the Financial Account will be accountable for the timely preparation of accurate and complete financial reports. The Financial Accountant will also act as an advisor to other members of the Finance department and operations teams, helping to assess the system requirements, accounting treatment and processes associated with sustaining new business activities.
Accountabilities
The accountabilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and maintain exceptional working relationship with Head office, located in Beijing, acting as one of the key team liaisons between local controlling team and head office working level teams. This requires the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, in Mandarin and English.
- Translate reporting requests received from HQ, located in Beijing, from Mandarin to English.
- Review and prepare various portions of the monthly FMIS package and other reporting as requested by head office by translating data from English to Mandarin.
- Coordinate and prepare monthly reporting Financial Statement Package and quarterly financial statements
- Coordinate and execute various month end close process
- Prepare monthly reporting financial statement package and supplemental analysis
- The preparation of balance sheet account reconciliations
- Preparation and coordination of financial presentations and analysis for management
- Supporting the work of other finance members
- Provide backup BPC and FI/CO master data support
- Assist in the preparation of consolidated annual IFRS financial statements and notes
- Assist Senior Financial Analyst in coordination and consolidation of forecasts and budget
- Ad-hoc projects and reports for headquarters, management, and other business units
- Provide backup for various SAP master data setup and maintenance
- Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Business or related field
- Ability to communicate in Mandarin, verbal and written, at a professional level is required
- Professional Accountant Designation required
- Minimum of 4+ years related oil & gas work experience (2-3 years post designation) is required- Proficiency in the Microsoft Suite of tools, specifically in the use of advanced excel tools
- Prior experience with large financial systems (preferably SAP ECC, Analysis, BPC) would be an asset
- Prior experience as an external auditor working on mid to large oil and gas client files would be an asset
- Confident, detail orientated and enthusiastic team player
