BHE Canada is currently seeking a Corporate Development Analyst to join our Calgary team. Reporting to the Director, Corporate Development, the successful candidate will be responsible for conducting market analyses, evaluating acquisition and new-build opportunities, and supporting strategy development efforts.
As a key player involved in strategic investment decisions, the candidate will work closely with senior members of the team to perform financial analysis, evaluation, and execution of North American energy and infrastructure opportunities. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop valuable skills in corporate finance, business strategy, and deal making within a dynamic and fast paced environment.
- Support the evaluation and preparation of detailed business cases for investment and acquisitions opportunities that meet BHE Canada’s strategic criteria, including briefing slide decks for senior executives.
- Develop and modify financial models for greenfield projects, acquisitions or other business development opportunities; including discounted cash flow analysis for unlevered and levered returns, modeling three statement financial reports in Excel, capital structure optimization, business sensitivity analysis and earnings accretion / dilution analysis.
- Assist in due diligence activities on investment opportunities.
- Evaluate and prepare detailed corporate profiles and competitive assessments of key market players.
- Prepare in-depth research and ongoing analysis of emerging technologies such as energy storage, carbon capture and sequestration and hydrogen including their applications and regulatory policies/ framework.
- Monitor target-market fundamentals and metrics, ongoing procurement processes, and policy developments; for integration into business development activities.
- Conduct macroeconomic analysis of Canadian, U.S. and international energy and electricity markets, and report key findings.
- Undertake a wide range of special projects as assigned, to support the company’s strategic planning and growth.
- A University degree (ideally within business, economics, or engineering), or equivalent in experience.
- Working towards an MBA/CFA/CPA considered an asset.
- 2-5 years of experience in financial modelling and planning role.
- Energy industry experience, preferably electricity, with a well-rounded knowledge of key industry drivers, and the indicators of change within the industry.
- Strong lateral thinker with highly developed conceptual and analytical skills.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Adaptable and flexible with the ability to work on more than one project at a time, and with a variety of individuals and disciplines.
- Highly motivated, with a positive attitude and the ability to function effectively as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
