Make your mark while you grow your career! Canadian Natural is looking for a highly motivated self-starter to join their Well Abandonment Planning team. As a Well Abandonment Technician, you will provide administrative and technical support for well abandonment projects, while following regulatory requirements and interfacing with office and field personnel. You will manage the abandonment inventory process, collaborating with the Asset Teams, Surface Land, and Mineral Land. You will also have an opportunity to advance your technical skills through well file reviews and planning area based Well Abandonment Projects, working closely with the Well Abandonments Engineering and Operations teams, and as part of the Drilling & Completions – Asset Retirement group.

- Manage the well abandonment inventory workflow and update tracking software and abandonment databases and triage new abandonment and suspension candidates
- Spearhead area-based closure projects through surface and mineral land sign-off
- Liaise with asset teams to promote timely well abandonment project approvals
- Assist with reporting as required and train to provide back-up for the following duties:
- Cut and cap reporting process
- Provincial regulatory reporting requirements for well abandonments
- AFE creation, tracking, and partner approval
- SCVF, GM, and casing failure testing and reporting
- Perform well file reviews and update pertinent data into WellView for abandonment projects
- Assist with well abandonment project execution through:
- Prepare AFE cost estimates for individual wells and larger programs
- Develop and design well abandonment programs
- Build well abandonment programs for yearly budget and execution.
- Engage Regulators for non-routine applications- Review, maintain, and update regional and well play-type asset retirement obligation data for end-of-life liability estimates
- 5+ years of industry experience
- Relevant post-secondary education is an asset, but not required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Knowledge in AccuMap, WellView, and other database programs is an asset
- Understanding of the AER Directive 20, AER Directive 13 and mineral land rights would be advantageous
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with accuracy and attention to detail are a must
- Excellent organization skills with the desire to expand your technical learning
