Job Description
Step into a role where your engineering expertise helps keep the grid reliable, resilient, and ready for the future. As a Transmission Operations Engineer, you’ll provide critical operational, technical, and analytical support for Avista’s Transmission, Balancing Authority, and Energy Imbalance Market operations. From performing daily and seasonal power system analyses to guiding emergency operational studies, you’ll play a key part in ensuring safe and efficient system performance. You’ll help shape operating procedures, support system capital projects, and contribute to compliance with essential reliability standards—all while collaborating with regional partners through operating committees and task forces. If you’re driven to solve complex power system challenges and support real-time grid operations, this role puts you at the heart of it.
Responsibilities
- Performs daily and near-term system studies to ensure reliable operation of the transmission system.
- Provides real-time operational support.
- Manages existing and creates new system operating procedures (SOP’s) to support real-time operations.
- Ensures compliance with operations-related NERC standards.
- Actively participates in regional and national committees, work groups, task forces, etc.
- Provides operational review of future system reinforcements throughout the project life cycle.
- Bachelor of Science in ABET accredited Electrical Engineering Program
- Knowledge of transmission and distribution systems
- Knowledge of NERC standards and/or Reserve Sharing programs preferred
- Experience in protection engineering, system planning, or system operations preferred
- Professional Engineering License preferred
- Effective and flexible communication skills
- Minimum of four (4) years engineering work experience required
Hiring Range: $100,378 to $131,496
Senior Engineer
- Minimum of six (6) years engineering work experience required
- Demonstrated skills illustrating use of productivity, presentation, and analytical tools specific to area of expertise
- Demonstrated technical leadership within engineering
- Demonstrated positive and effective working relationships with internal and external parties
Hiring Range: $114,207 to $150,183
Other combinations of experience, training, and education may be considered. Hybrid work options are available for this role. The successful candidate will be required to work at our Spokane, Washington headquarters at least 3 days per week including Mondays and Tuesdays with additional day(s) determined by the manager.
