Under general supervision, performs Maintenance Mechanic duties. Works with a high degree of independence and skill from knowledge and ability acquired through experience and technical training on corrective actions and procedures in repairing and installing equipment and utilities. Must perform specific responsibilities as instructed or requested by supervision. Must meet specific performance standards to complete assigned tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Keep work area, tools and equipment clean and orderly.
- Work with other craftsmen, as required to coordinate the moving, changing, or placing of materials, parts, and supplies used in installing, repairing, or servicing equipment and utilities.
- Maintain filters and keep necessary maintenance records.
- Perform routine maintenance on gas, diesel, and electric industrial trucks.
- Check equipment for worn or defective parts and determine if equipment is in top operating condition, and corrects by repairing or replacing if necessary.
- Keep record of all piping and equipment relocation.
- Work with manufacturer’s representative on new installations and equipment problems.
- Align equipment such as pumps, motors, controls, and gear drives.
- Change mill and caster rolls as requested and readies equipment for start-up by production.
- Keep records on gas, oil, and water meters.
- Assembly and maintain all bearings.
- Maintain and repairs hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Use and care for hand and power tools in accordance with safety and good operating practices.
- Perform other maintenance duties as assigned or requested.
Performance Standards:
a). Perform assigned Maintenance Mechanic duties according to Maintenance Department practices. Due to the wide range of responsibilities for this position, the department
supervisor or Superintendent will make judgment decisions based on their
knowledge of tasks needing to be performed.
b). Ensure daily tasks are completed in time allotted.
c). Ensure daily tasks are performed in compliance with established practices.
d). Ensure safety rules are followed.
e). Follow established guidelines in relation to attendance, breaks, on
call responsibilities, and company policy.
f). Report machinery, safety or personnel issues to supervisor.
g). Determine nature of machinery malfunction or breakdown. Advise supervisor to
arrange repairs as necessary.
h). Recognize safety hazards or unsafe activities of other personnel. Report such
to offending associate and supervisor for review during scheduled safety talk.
i). Recognize misuse, theft or damage of company property and report such to
supervisor.
j). Support and participate in open communication between supervision and fellow
employees.
k). Secure necessary supplies to perform assigned duties.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Certificate from a secondary technical or vocational school; or three to six months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Computer and other Skills:
Ability to acquire basic computer skills to enter and extract information from computer. Ability to use measuring equipment such as micrometer and tape.
Technical Skills:
Working knowledge of lubricants and their proper uses in filters, oil reservoirs and grease fittings. Ability to learn alignment procedures for various types of equipment. Understand and able to apply knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret graphic representations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Working knowledge of problem solving skills and ability to apply them in a reasonable manner.
