Overview
Under the guidance of the Manager, the Senior Specialist's basic objective is to support the electric training programs to promote high standards for employee performance in terms of technical proficiency, safety, productivity, customer focus and ethical behavior. This position contributes to the success of the Company by providing a motivated, well-trained workforce to meet the needs of customers and various stakeholders.
Responsibilities Core Responsibilities
- Supervise and conduct training of employees in the skills required to perform their jobs. Lead the development and review of training curriculum and aides, instructor guides, student guides, tests, training media, eLearning courses, etc.
- Project plan and manage line school programs and short-term and long-term multi-year planning of electric training programs. Evaluate line apprentices performance and progression during their apprenticeship program
- Oversee Digital Learning Technology eLearning development projects.
- Indirectly supervise 21 weekly Union employees overhead and underground line chiefs and technicians.
- Ensure that all assigned courses have current learning objectives, course outlines, instructor guides, student manuals, training aids, tests, media and centralized document control.
- Coordinate with field personnel to ensure alignment of training with operations, including participation of Co-Chair in Electric Training Effectiveness Committee (TEC) and Purposeful Field Visits.
- Create, update and maintain all electric eTrain courses and Learning Management System (LMS) records in Training.
- Stay informed of operating incidents, issues, procedures, lessons learned, etc. Communicate these to the training staff and students, where applicable.
- Provide technical expertise to operating organizations and other parties regarding equipment, materials, safety and operating procedures. Responsible for Oracle and P-card transactions/invoices.
- Update and maintain eTrain and Learning Management System (LMS) records (i.e. creating classes, enrolling students, marking attendance, and providing completion credit.) Produce and utilize reports from TLC portal. Ensure team advisor duties are performed (i.e. run eTrain reports periodically, work with customers to ensure compliance, manage Electric schedule, maintain training trailer/yard calendar, and customer needs are met in a timely manner.) Ensure company is Electric training compliant on all required training.
- Assists with the company's hiring and progression testing program under the direction of the manager of O&R training. This will consist of various duties such as working with line organizations, labor and recruitment. Responsible for proctoring tests and development and change of tests. Ensure confidentiality and test administration is carried out in compliance with Company policies, guidelines and standards.
- Perform other related tasks and special assignments as required.
- Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of related work experience. or
- Associate's Degree and 8 years of related work experience. or
- High School Diploma/GED and 10 years of related work experience.
- 4 years of work experience in Electric Distribution Systems, required.
- Work experience in Substations and Transmission Systems, preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills, required.
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills, required.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm, flexibility and the ability handle multiple tasks and assignments while working under tight deadlines, required.
- Strong organizational, administrative, decision making and interpersonal skills with attention to detail and a solid teamwork orientation, required.

- Must have the ability to make presentations and facilitate group activities/training, required.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and can deal with all levels of management, Regulatory Agencies, union personnel and customers and the ability handle multiple tasks and assignments while working under tight deadlines, required.
- Hands-on experience with computer software programs, including Microsoft Office products, required.

- Driver's License Required
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class A Preferred
- Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Ability to climb in and out of manholes and excavations
- Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
- Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
- Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
- Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
- Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be willing and able to travel within the O&R and/or CECONY service territory as needed.
- Must push, pull, and lift 25 pounds
- Must sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for entire shift
- Must work at field locations in all weather conditions
