The Sign Fabricator is responsible for building high-quality architectural and commercial signage from start to finish. This role takes engineered drawings and work orders and turns them into real, finished signs using metal, acrylic, plastics, LEDs, and various shop equipment. The Sign Fabricator is a key player in delivering on-time, on-budget products that meet brand, quality, and safety standards.
- Fabricate channel letters, box cabinets, monument signs, pylons, interior wayfinding, and specialty signs from drawings and cut lists.
- Cut, bend, form, and assemble aluminum and steel using shears, brakes, notchers, rollers, and hand tools.
- Work with acrylic, polycarbonate, PVC, and other substrates: cutting, routing, sanding, flame-polishing, and fitting.
- Install LEDs, power supplies, and internal components according to shop drawings and electrical best practices.
- Assemble signs using rivets, welding, fasteners, adhesives, sealants, and appropriate hardware.
- Operate fabrication equipment: panel saws, CNC router, laminators, brakes, welders, drill presses, and hand tools.
- Follow standard operating procedures for setup, operation, and shutdown of all machinery.
- Perform basic maintenance, cleaning, and inspections of tools and equipment; report issues proactively.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and work orders with a high level of accuracy.
- Verify dimensions, materials, finishes, and color specifications before fabrication.
- Inspect work in process and final assemblies to ensure alignment, fit, finish, and illumination meet company quality standards.
- Identify fabrication issues early and recommend practical solutions.
- Follow all safety policies, including PPE use, lockout/tagout, lifting, and machine safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with OSHA and company standards.
- Handle chemicals, paints, adhesives, and electrical components safely and according to MSDS guidelines.
- Coordinate with designers, project managers, and installers to clarify details and resolve conflicts.
- Prioritize workload based on production schedules and deadlines.
- Provide feedback on drawings and designs to improve manufacturability and reduce rework.
- Mentor junior fabricators and support cross-training across shop functions as needed.- 2+ years of experience in sign fabrication, metal fabrication, carpentry, or a related trade.
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and tape measures to 1/16".
- Hands-on experience with power tools and fabrication equipment (saws, drills, grinders, brakes, etc.).
- Basic knowledge of welding (MIG/TIG) and metalworking, or strong mechanical aptitude with willingness to learn.
- Experience working with aluminum, steel, acrylic, and typical sign materials.
- Strong attention to detail, quality, and finish work.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Prior experience fabricating channel letters and illuminated signage.
- Experience operating a CNC router and/or brake/shear.
- Basic understanding of low-voltage electrical (LED modules, power supplies, wiring).
- OSHA safety awareness training or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (for occasional deliveries or assists with installs).
- Ability to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods.
- Lift and move up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs occasionally with assistance.
- Comfortable working with noise, dust, fumes, and shop conditions (with appropriate PPE).
- On-time completion rate for assigned jobs.
- Rework and error rate on fabricated parts.
- Quality of finish, fit, and illumination.
- Adherence to safety protocols and housekeeping standards.
- Collaboration and communication with production, design, and install teams.
