We’re a busy geological engineering firm seeking a Research Assistant to support our close-knit team. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, teachable, and willing to learn. You will join a creative team in a dynamic work environment, at our office located in the Woodstock/Acworth area close to Bells Ferry Road and I-575.
The Research Assistant will report directly to the Director of Environmental Services (DES), as well as support a multi-disciplinary project team. This position may occasionally include travel with other staff to attend county meetings and provide administrative support. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: working closely with the DES to thoroughly research applicable ordinances, guidelines, and regulations as required by specific projects; updating and maintaining databases and files used for regulatory reference; supporting the project team with setback, buffer, permitting, and other information as needed; organizing regulatory materials and project binders, and other tasks as assigned by the DES and others.

This is a salary position with a range of $55,000 to $70,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications.

- Researching county ordinances for specific and general development regulations, communicating with county officials as directed when clarification is needed
- Regularly reviewing and updating the county ordinance research to maintain an updated database of current regulations for quick reference
- Researching property parcels and other information using qPublic, county GIS websites, Google Earth, DOT, and other publicly available databases
- Researching environmental and other information using IPaC, NWI, EPA, NRHP, and other publicly available databases
- Reviewing county comprehensive plans for specific and general development guidelines, regionally important resources, and future land use plans
- Researching state regulations and guidelines as needed, communicating with state officials as directed when clarification is needed
- Researching federal regulations and guidelines as needed
- Researching county Planning Commission and Board of Commissioner meeting minutes and calendar dates as needed
- Monitoring public opinion and regulatory outcomes regarding specific projects as assigned
- Compiling information for project data sheets and activity logs as assigned
- Assisting members of the project team with property setbacks, buffer distances, and other regulatory guidance as needed
- Streamlining systems processes
- Experience with ArcGIS / QGIS is a plus
- Specific research projects as directed by the DES and other staff
- Attendance at project meetings, taking notes, and updating project status in databases as needed
- Occasional travel to attend county meetings in an administrative capacity; some overnight travel may be required
- Occasional travel to accompany staff for fieldwork as needed; some overnight travel may be required
- Demonstrated research experience and solid work ethic
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Legal authorization to work in the United States (confirmed via E-Verify)
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen
- Clean driving record (7-year history)
- Experience with county planning and/or building departments
- Experience with environmental regulations
- Experience with industrial development and environmental permitting
