Role: Fuel System Technician – PM3 or OBT / Field Service Generator Technician
Please note that only candidates selected for interview will be contacted. Must have a PM3 or OBT licenses.
Generator Technician performs a variety of skilled and technical tasks in the inspection, repair, preventive, and corrective maintenance and modification of various power generation equipment and diesel fuel system.
Northern Generator is currently looking for a self-motivated full time fuel system technician /field service generator technician with the desired skill, knowledge and experience below:
- Knowledge of B139-15
- Work doing Fuel system upgrades with Tank installation
- Experience doing pipe threading & Fitting
- Experience installing ULC Stack an asset
- Experience coring holes for exhaust pipes and vent & fill pipes.
- Experience supervising Fuel Projects an asset
- Respond to emergency situations in an efficient and timely manner and to effect immediate repairs.
- Work in various adverse conditions such as tight or enclosed spaces, heights and temperature extremes, indoors or outdoors to complete work assignments.
- Work with minimum supervision or no supervision in a safely manner.
- Bend, crawl, and kneel to access areas requiring repair or installation.
- Operate light and heavy duty equipment (e.g. load banks, cables, stair climber, batteries, etc.). Heavy lift is required.
- Safely operate company vehicles in all weather conditions.
- Respond to company-wide ‘all hands’ calls during extreme weather or disasters.
- Accurately sketch, read and understand basic electrical or piping schematics.
- Write reports and other documents legibly/ Correspond by email within a timely manner. Follow company health and safety guidelines.
- Follow safety standards in working with multiple services, tools and equipment.
- Communicate orally and in writing with team members, co-workers, sub-contractors and vendors to obtain and provide useful information.
- Program, test and connect transfer switches is an asset.
- Complete all required paper work documentation to ensure customers are billed correctly in timer manner.
- Work experience troubleshooting, repairing, testing and maintaining life safety emergency diesel generators and automatic transfer switches in occupied buildings, commercial offices and/or industrial building.
- Understanding of CSA C282-15 – Guidelines for Generator Maintenance
- EGSA are an asset.
- Diesel mechanical license is an asset.
- Post-secondary education (diploma in electrical or mechanical) or an equivalent combination of experience and education is surely an asset.
- PM3 or OBT licenses is a must.
- Must possess a valid G2 Ontario driver's license with no restriction.
Day to day tasks and responsibilities include but not limited to :
- Attend various customer locations using company service vehicle
- Typical customer locations include residential high rise buildings, public and industrial buildings. Service area includes GTA as well as out-of-town locations. Overnight stays out of town may be required occasionally. Early starts is typical
- Update Generator fuel system to address deficiencies under installation code (CSA B139) and permit delivery of diesel by a commercial supplier.
- Perform preventative maintenance and testing on internal combustion engine-driven electrical power generating equipment.
- Preventative maintenance service on generator, Oil & filter changes, Load Bank testing, megger tests, 5 years maintenance.
- Respond to service calls assigned by office; troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems.
- Hands on maintenance, installation, service and repair to a varied range of diesel driven generating sets, diesel generator control systems and associated equipment including turbochargers and fuel injection equipment.
- Inspect, repair, service and start-up load bank test.
- Apply proper engine technical skills in inspection, disassembly, failure analysis, assembly, diagnosis, and engine operating performance tests.
- Identify the problem and cause of failure through logical troubleshooting steps, determine corrective action through inspection of failed parts.
- Prepare quality reports of site conditions and submit repair recommendations.
- Northern Generator is a 24 / 7 emergency services provider. The technician will be scheduled to share in being on-call for after-hours emergencies.
- Troubleshoot equipment and service generator components including alternators, wiring harnesses safety devices, shutdown switches, and battery systems.
