Our fast-growing boat yard in Ballard is seeking a well-organized, self-starting purchasing administrator. In this role you will support the purchasing of materials and equipment for a boatyard specializing in the construction and repair of commercial vessels, fishing boats and workboats. We are a small close-knit team. Initiative, good organizational skills, and a willingness to help in whatever way possible is more important than a specific marine background. For the right person, this is the opportunity to grow into a larger purchasing role, project management role, or a contract management position.

- Source parts and services and identify manufacturers, vendors, and suppliers
- Evaluate suppliers by considering price, quality, availability, and other criteria
- Conduct cost analysis and seek out the best cost-effective options
- Setup/manage suppliers and negotiate payment terms and INCOTERMS
- Create/issue/track and update purchase orders
- Coordinate logistics with vendors and freight carriers
- Oversee the tracking and expediting of shipments
- Provide reports to the team showing ETA of ordered materials
- Review supplier bills and communicate with vendors to correct inaccuracies
- Obtain 3D CAD files, owners manuals, spare parts lists, and warranty information as required
- Maintain updated records
- Other duties as assigned
- Ability to prioritize tasks

- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to function will in a fast-paced, and at times, stressful environment
- 2-3 years administrative support experience
- Strong skills in the MS Office Suite of software and Adobe Acrobat
- Experience with Intuit Quickbooks
- Experience in creating and maintaining spreadsheets that track data
- Ability to effectively communicate with associates and vendors in a professional manner
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- AA or bachelor’s degree
- Experience with MRP/ERP systems
- Experience with a marine, industrial or construction company
- Experience working with suppliers to expedite and track orders/shipments
- Proven experience as a purchasing agent or relevant role
- Strong negotiation skills
The work environment is a dynamic, fast-paced shipyard with moderate to loud noise levels due to ongoing production activities. Job duties are performed in an office setting as well as in production areas and onboard vessels and may require:
- Ability to work in shipyard production areas and onboard vessels.
- Ability to walk to and from job sites and climb inclined stairways
- Availability for shifts longer than 8 hours and/or weekend work if needed.
- Frequent activities including walking, standing, sitting, using hands and arms, reaching, talking & hearing.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 lbs.
- $35-$40 / hourly
- Full time, overtime exempt position
