Overview
The Data Engineer designs and builds scalable data pipelines, ensures data integrity, and enables advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives. The Data Engineer works directly with business clients to understand end-to-end business processes and shapes the data infrastructure to drive business success and fosters a culture of data excellence to ensure systems power strategic decisions across the organization.
The Data Engineer can work from either office location: The Woodlands, TX or Plainfield, IL. This position is an Individual Contributor role. The role directly reports to the Director, Applications and Data Management and routinely interacts with Global IT, Global Business Leads, Global Functional Leads, and Project Management.
Responsibilities•Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and efficient data pipelines to ingest, process, and transform structured and unstructured data from various sources (e.g., databases, APIs, streaming systems).
•Integrate data from internal and external systems, ensuring data quality, consistency, and security while optimizing storage and retrieval processes.
•Collaborate with infrastructure and cybersecurity teams to architect and secure the data infrastructure.
•Work closely with data analysts and business stakeholders to understand data needs, provide clean and reliable datasets, and support machine learning and analytics initiatives.
•Monitor and optimize data systems for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency; troubleshoot and resolve data pipeline issues in a timely manner.
•Design and implement data models (e.g., star schema, dimensional models) to support reporting and analytics requirements.
•Automate repetitive data processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
•Create and maintain detailed documentation for data pipelines, processes, and system architectures.
•Ensure all data processes comply with internal data governance policies.
•Lead small projects and contribute to larger projects.
Qualifications
•A bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, information systems, or equivalent work experience. Master’s degree is a plus.
•15 Years of general data and application experience, 10+ years specifically in data engineering, including hands-on work with ETL/ELT processes, data modeling, and cloud platforms.
•Strong expertise in programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C#).
•Strong expertise querying databases with SQL.
•Experience with data pipeline tools (e.g., Informatica, Azure Data Factory, Apache Kafka).
•Experience with database management systems (e.g. SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB).
•Familiarity with cloud data platforms (e.g. Snowflake, Microsoft Synapse, Databricks).
•Familiarity with reporting and visualization tools (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau, Business Objects).
•Demonstrated experience delivering data engineering projects in a team setting.
•Experience in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction industry a plus.
•Relevant data engineering certifications preferred.

•Self-motivated approach to identifying opportunities for data process improvements and driving initiatives to completion.
•Strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines effectively.

•Ability to lead presentations, training courses, and effective meetings.
•Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with the IT organization, operations and infrastructure teams, management and business personnel.

Pay Range
USD $125,000.00 - $155,000.00 Annually
