Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineering Manager to lead the civil engineering efforts for utility-scale solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. This role is responsible for leading the civil design for a portfolio of projects, managing the civil engineering team, while conducting all quality assurance and quality control for all deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
•Manage and lead the civil engineering team, including assigning tasks, balancing workload, mentoring staff, and ensuring team performance meets project goals.
•Independently lead the design on projects and be the Civil Engineer of Record.
•Drawing and deliverables QA/QC
•Train junior staff on design and plan creation.
•Delegate work to civil staff to maintain all project schedules and balance workload.
•Collaborate with Engineering Director on current and future projects.
•Production of engineering plan sets and details using AutoCAD design software.
•Engineering plan sets to include Grading, Drainage, Erosion Control Design, Sections, Profiles, and Details. Ensure designs follow all local, state, and federal standards.
•Create “base maps” that include project constraints and other applicable site data to use for design purposes. Sources may include publicly available data sites, boundary and topographic surveys, environmental features, etc.
•Perform CAD support in drafting, addressing markups, collating, plotting, plotter maintenance, etc.
•Read, interpret, and understand all project documentation, such as zoning and permitting requirements, local codes, and standards, to produce design solutions to meet the requirements.
•Determine and coordinate surveys required for design and permitting purposes. Review reports conducted for projects to ensure compliance and determine impacts on the site design.
•Create Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) and determine and follow local standards for land disturbance.
•Produce Hydrology and Hydraulics reports that include calculations for the post-construction runoff rates and the respective stormwater mitigations and meet local standards.
•Learn and maintain relevant knowledge of national codes and standards as applied to renewable energy system projects.
•Assist in the preparation of cost estimates and project schedules.
•Meet with Agency officials and project stakeholders to explain and/or collaborate on the design.
•Consult with the clients on the potential amount of civil works and solutions to reduce the costs and value engineering the design.
•Travel to project sites or meetings as needed.
Required Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited university.
•6+ years experience in the civil engineering land development design space, grading-drainage analysis and design, renewable energy field, or equivalent.
•Experience with utility-scale ground-mounted solar PV systems.
•Professional Engineer licensure.
•AutoCAD and Civil 3D experience.
•Project/team management experience.
•Knowledge of structural design, geotechnical engineering, surveying, and ArcGIS.
•Strong attention to detail and quality-centric work ethic.
