A Quality Testing Technician is an individual responsible for testing the quality of outbound materials and communicate findings relative to material specifications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned. - Assist in utilizing the SMI Quality system at SMI facility.
- Lead in ensuring that product and services meet or exceed customer specifications.
- Perform plant quality checks per SMI’s Quality Procedures.
- Update and maintain quality records on a computer.
- Perform and document in-process cullet sampling in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP).
- Conduct and document incoming and outgoing load inspections.
- Work with the maintenance personnel to ensure equipment operates efficiently to optimize product quality.
- Wear appropriate site specific personal protective equipment (PPE), as required.
- Understand and adhere to all company operating procedures and company safety policies.
- Cross-trained in other plant positions, as needed.
- Any other related duties, as assigned by their supervisor.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES: To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. - Quality Improvement Process knowledge.
- Core competencies in Quality Control, Testing, and Auditing, a plus.
- Able to read and understand Procedures and Test Methods.
- Capable of operating quality equipment (inspection tables, ovens etc.).
- Excellent communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work independently, with little supervision.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Data entry experience.
- Capable of using a calculator and laboratory scales and competency with interpreting numbers.
- Basic computer operation skills (experience with Excel and Outlook).
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- Quality Control and Operations experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Glass processing knowledge preferred.
