Shape the future of clean energy—one outage at a time
Picture your week: you start from home—anywhere in the United States—then fly out to a nuclear site to commission a critical crane, calibrate fuel handling systems, and collaborate with a tight-knit outage team. You close the loop each day with precise documentation and a call to your Service Supervisor. Then it’s on to the next challenge. That’s life as a Field Service Specialist on Westinghouse’s FHE Outage & Maintenance Services team.
Work location: Remote within the U.S. with frequent travel (approximately 60–70% by air and/or car). You will report to the FHE Outage and Maintenance Supervisor.
- Install, commission, maintain, inspect, calibrate, and troubleshoot nuclear fuel handling systems and outage-critical crane equipment at customer sites worldwide.
- Study and interpret maintenance/operating procedures and engineering drawings to plan and execute work safely and correctly.
- Support engineering and training through equipment modifications, setup and testing, mock-up preparation, process testing, and qualification activities. Capture performance issues during field use and verify corrective actions before next deployment.
- Keep certifications current by participating in ongoing training; stay sharp on evolving technology and procedures.
- Deliver high-quality work under general supervision, rigorously following qualified procedures and documenting all quality-related findings.
- Live “Safety First,” maintain orderly work areas, and keep your Unescorted Access credentials active at nuclear sites.
- Build strong working relationships with peers, supervisors, contractors, and customers; bring empathy, service mindset, and creative problem-solving to every task.
- Provide daily (or as-needed) progress updates to the service supervisor; travel extensively and work safely around hazardous materials.
- High school diploma (or equivalent) plus a 2-year post-secondary degree/certificate—or equivalent experience—with training in electrical, electronic, PLC, or mechanical systems.
- 2–5 years of relevant experience demonstrating mechanical, electrical, and PLC aptitude; prior nuclear industry exposure is a plus.
- Ability to occasionally lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
- Full range of motion: reach, climb, kneel, squat, grasp, forward/backward bend; able to sit and stand at least 4 hours/day.
- Ability to pass a Westinghouse physical, including spirometry to support respirator use.
