Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario. The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.
Applicants who reside in Northwestern Ontario and have experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the Northwest Ontario, are assets. Hiring priority will be given to qualified applicants who are beneficiaries of the Impact Benefits Agreement (IBA) and to qualified applicants residing in the Northwest Ontario communities. Reporting to the Underground Chief Geologist and working closely with the mine geology team, the Mine Resource Geologist will oversee, support, and prepare mineral resource models for short-term mine planning. The Mine Resource Geologist will also manage the integrity of resource databases, including QA/QC of assays and other relevant data supporting mineral resource models.
- Generate and manage mineral resource models, ensuring that the reported resources and reserves are estimated in alignment with industry regulations and guidelines. Ensure timely delivery of models for mine planning and make drilling recommendations to ensure classification thresholds are met.
- Oversee and support the integrity of resource databases, including performing QA/QC verifications and producing reports. Ensure the geological and assay databases are updated and accurate
- Standardize and monitor data acquisition workflows for core logging, core sampling, and underground sampling.
- Collaborate in the stope reconciliation process and grade forecasting.
- Support exploration initiatives in producing and updating geological models. Make recommendations for additional diamond drilling and other growth opportunities.
- Act as a role model for the New Gold “Courage to Care” culture and promote the Company’s standards in Safety, Health, Environment and Community Relations.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the mining industry.
- Experience in resource estimation of precious metal deposits.
- Experience in managing databases.
- Bachelor of Science in Geology or equivalent.
- Current class C Driver's License.
- Have a broad understanding of geological and mineralisation systems and experience generating 3D litho-structural models.
- Current registration as a P.Geo. or P.Eng. or be eligible for membership in Ontario.
- Ability to work in a team while being self-reliant.
- Demonstrate good leadership and management skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Leapfrog Edge or other resource estimation software.
- Have creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
